Wham! Musician Deon Estus Has Passed Away

He is the longtime bass player for Wham!

Deon Estus died on Monday at the age of 65. His official social media accounts confirmed his own passing however his cause of death was not revealed.

“It is with real sadness I post that Deon Estus passed away this morning read,” the assertion peruses. “Deon was mostly known as the third member of Wham! Deon was passionate about music and loved interacting with his loyal fans.”

On Tuesday, the official George Michael Facebook page also composed an accolade for the bass player. “We are very sad to hear that our friend Deon Estus has passed away,” the post read.

“Deon was not only an unbelievably talented bass player who was highly respected amongst his peers but also a much loved and treasured member of Wham! and of George’s musical family.”

“His friends and fellow musicians are sharing their memories of him today: ‘He made everything fun…champagne on ice, frisbee and seemingly endless laughter’. His wonderful spirit and his talent will be greatly missed. Rest in peace Deon,” the post concluded.

Deon Estus was probably best known as the bass player for Wham! and for his work on the track “Heaven Help Me” for which Michael supplied backing vocals. It was released from his only album, titled Spell in 1989 and became the biggest hit as it placed No. 5 on Billboard Hot 100 single. It also peaked at No. 3 on both the Adult Contemporary and Hot R&B charts.

I LOVED this song from the first time I heard the Bass line way back in 1989. When I started playing the Bass a few yrs ago I put this song on my “Gotta learn to play this!” list. "Heaven Help Me" by Deon Estus is 1 of the most beautiful songs to me. May he Rest In Peace 🙏🏾💜🕊🙏🏾
