R&B Singer Emani Dies At The Age Of 22

The young musician has collaborated with some high-profile artists.

The rising R&B singer whose real name is Emani Johnson has passed away on Monday following a “tragic accident,” as per an assertion delivered by her manager to PEOPLE.

“It is with heavy hearts that the family of Emani has confirmed her passing,” a statement provided to the publication reads.

“They would like to share that although she fought courageously and the medical team went above and beyond doing everything in their power to aid in her recovery, on Monday, October 11th, Emani succumbed to the injuries she sustained after a tragic accident. At this time, Emani’s family is asking for privacy to mourn and honor her life and memories.”

Her record producer, J Maine likewise confirmed the vocalist’s passing, “Emani 22 was a wonderful individual that literally brightened up any room she was in.”

He added, “I worked on music with her, and helped her put together her last project which was ‘The Color Red.’ The way we worked together was effortless, we just understood each other,” he continued. “It hurts so bad to know that the last time I saw her was the last time I’d ever see her again.”

“I considered her to be like a little sister to me. She will be missed and never forgotten, and I’ll always think about the great times we had hanging out.”

Emani Johnson’s cause of death has not been verified. Her most-streamed song on Spotify was “Feelings,” and had more than 155,000 followers on Instagram including DJ Diplo. She was also best known for her collabs with rapper Trippie Redd and appeared on two songs from his 2018 album A Love Letter to You: the tracks “Firestarter” and “Emani Interlude.”
