Support for Vax Stance

Kyrie Irving received a strong and vocal support from boxing champ Floyd Mayweather on his unpopular choice in refusing to get vaccinated.

Mayweather, a 5-division boxing champion, went out to voice his support for Kyrie the ‘old school’ way. In his Twitter post on Tuesday, he reads a letter he wrote to express his thoughts on Kyrie’s decision.

In what was a heartfelt letter, he calls Kyrie a “great person, great father, great athlete.”.

Personal Choice

Kyrie Irving has been suspended from playing home or away games, and also from practices with teammates because of his refusal to vaccinate. Owner Sean Marks had put his foot down that Kyrie is not allowed to play “until he is eligible to be a full participant.”.

Kyrie refused to take the vaccine since then and he has stood by his decision. By refusing to do so, he aims to become “a voice for the voiceless”, sources close to Irving shares to The Athletic.

Shams Charania of The Athletic shares that “To him, this is about a grander fight than the one on the court and Irving is challenging a perceived control of society and people’s livelihood, according to sources with knowledge of Irving’s mindset.”

Land of the Free

The letter of Mayweather articulates how Kyrie’s decision resonates with what it means to be an American, a leader, a free man, and a person of integrity.

“… America is the land of the free. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion and supposedly freedom to choose. Never be controlled by money. I respect you for having some integrity and being your own man. A free mind makes its own choices, an enslaved mind follows the crowd. Stand for something or fall for anything. One man can lead a revolution to stand up and fight for what’s right. One choice, one word, one action can change the world. It’s crazy how people hate you for being a leader. I hope your actions encourage many others to stand up and say, ‘enough is enough.’ Respect to you Kyrie and power to the people.”

Reactions to Mayweather's post

“A slave mind follows the crowd”.. Now all of the media dogs are after @FloydMayweather because he has, like me and @KyrieIrving, taken a firm stand against vaccine mandates. Dear Government: we are not your slaves anymore.

Masculine men who are not afraid Dave Chappelle, Kyrie Irving, Floyd Mayweather, Keep Standing.........

"A free mind makes his own choices. An enslaved mind follows the crowd."
