After an allegedly botched procedure in 2020, Comedian Trevor Noah has filed a lawsuit against a New York City-based hospital and orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Riley J. Williams.
Upon suffering “serious personal injuries” during his rehabilitation following surgery, the Daily Show host filed a case last month, charging negligence. The television personality claims that such ailments left him “sick, sore, lame, and disabled,” according to court documents obtained by Page Six.
He says he was Dr. Williams’ patient between August 25 and December 17, 2020. On November 23 of that year, he had the surgery.
Noah’s complaint further alleges that the hospital and surgeon failed to “prescribe proper medications,” “discontinue certain prescription medications,” and conduct necessary tests to “diagnose the conditions.”
In response to the complaint, the hospital said that his accusations are “meritless,” as per report by PEOPLE.
“HSS received a complaint filed on behalf of Mr. Trevor Noah,” the Hospital for Special Surgery said in an email to Law & Crime. “We have shared with Mr. Noah’s attorney a detailed rebuttal to the claims, which are meritless.”
“Due to HIPAA we are restricted by law from addressing publicly specific aspects of the treatment of any patient. HSS is committed to excellence in the care we provide to each of the more than 150,000 patients we treat each year,” the statement continued.
“This commitment has made HSS the world’s leading academic medical center specialized in musculoskeletal health, consistently ranked #1 in orthopedics globally and nationally,” the statement concluded.
