Simon Cowell And Lauren Silverman Engaged After A Nearly Two-Decade Romance

They've been dating since 2004.

Simon Cowell and Lauren Silverman, who have been dating since 2004 and had son Eric in February 2014, were engaged on Christmas Eve in Barbados, where they originally met, according to a source obtained by PEOPLE.

The pair went on a stroll and Cowell stunned her by proposing on the beach. The proposal took place on a family vacation, and it was made much more memorable by the presence of their 7-year-old son Eric and Lauren’s oldest son Adam.

“They are both super happy,” an insider said. “They’ve been together a long time now and adore each other so it’s not a huge surprise to their close friends.”

Silverman and Cowell met in 2004 when she was still married to Andrew Silverman, a real estate tycoon who was a close friend of Cowell’s.

The Silvermans divorced in 2013 after ten years of marriage, the same year Lauren and Cowell made their connection public, with the TV personality subsequently admitting to having an affair with Lauren while she was married to Andrew.

In a previous interview, the longtime judge on America’s Got Talent said, “[The affair] is not something I am proud of or wanted to happen in terms of hurting anyone,” adding, “It just happened … But then, of course, you have a baby, and you look at the baby and you kinda go, ‘This is what happened from it.’”

After earning his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Cowell conveyed his gratitude to her lifelong partner, as reported by Entertainment Tonight Canada on its YouTube page on Aug. 24, 2018. He called Silverman his “rock” and paid tribute to his late parents.

“Lauren, you’ve been my rock for the past few years, put up with everything I put up with,” he stated at the time.
