Pessimism is definitely out of the question for her.

West Side Story’s Ariana DeBose has the appropriate Instagram answer to a user’s criticism of her opening Saturday Night Live monologue.

“I’m so honored to be here tonight. Wow, 2020 has already been an exciting year,” DeBose said during her SNL monologue at the time. An Instagram user then criticized the actress for inadvertently mentioning the wrong year during her introduction, commenting, “She know it’s 2022 not 2020 right????”

“You try hosting SNL, reading cue cards with slight dyslexia and then get back to me brah,” the 30-year-old actress said bluntly.

The user decided to reply again saying, “Maybe get someone who isn’t on level with Joe Biden at reading since that’s a qualification to acting… reading lines,” which prompt DeBose to respond, “Cool. You’re a troll. Bye,” putting a stop to the fight.

Despite the negative social media engagement that DeBose had to cope with, the bulk of the response she received for her SNL performance was extremely supportive.

“I thought it was part of the joke! Because you know it’s like 2020 all over again!” Julissa Natzely Arce Raya, a writer, producer, and activist, chimed in on DeBose’s and the social media user’s chat. “Forget the haters! You were incredible!!!! ”

Regular cast member Kenan Thompson remarked on the SNL Instagram account’s footage of DeBose’s speech, “Destroyed it!!!!”

“You’re incredible and so damn fun to play with! 🔥🔥,” Chris Redd remarked on DeBose’s Instagram post remembering her stint as a host on the sketch comedy program.

DeBose expressed her admiration for the cast, crew, producers, and others who work relentlessly to bring the show to life each week in a long Instagram remark, writing, “My only regret is that I didn’t take selfie’s with anyone. Too busy being present, but I will hold the memories for ever.”

Reactions to Ariana DeBose Defends Her SNL Monologue Against 'Troll'

Ariana DeBose and Kate McKinnon giving each other a fist bump on the line "I feel pretty and witty and gay" is probably my favorite SNL moment in a while.

Everyone give it up for miss Ariana DeBose who just delivered the ultimate triple-threat performance on SNL! @ArianaDeBose

I think we can all agree that Ariana DeBose!!! @ArianaDeBose #SNL

Cmon now @ArianaDeBose you’re just showing off now 🙂 #snl

She should be happy anyone paid attention to her, I have no idea who this is.

Gee- wouldn't it be nice if trolls actually used correct grammar - the phrase is "a qualification FOR acting" not 'TO acting". Too bad this troll doesn't know how to read, use grammar, or even spell check...I wonder how they can criticize someone for doing exactly what they do?
