Sending our heartfelt sympathies to his family and friends.
After being shot in the neck and murdered in Houston at 2 a.m. on Friday, rapper Snootie Wild, born LePreston Porter, succumbed to his injuries. He was given CPR at the site, was transferred to a nearby hospital and eventually died.
His death was reported on his Instagram feed on Saturday night which reads, “Gone in body, but your NAME & LEGACY will live forever!”
The incident occurred when Snootie got into an altercation with another driver, which became violent after he mistakenly drove his vehicle into a ditch. He’s the second rapper from Memphis to be killed in recent months.
“It looks like he backed in there (the ditch) accidentally. Then the other vehicle pulled up, and folks got out of the car,” a Houston officer told the outlet. “They were talking for a little bit, and then all of a sudden, gunfire went off. Only one shot, actually.”
On Saturday, a representative for the Houston Police Department provided fresh information to The Sun as the investigation into the February 25 shooting continues.
According to a witness at the shooting site, she was trying to get her vehicle out of a ditch with the assistance of bystanders when the male victim who was shot approached her and brandished a gun at her.
She further stated that she fled after hearing a gunshot. “The only information we have at the moment is her version,” Houston police stated, urging anybody with knowledge to contact Crime Stoppers.
The rapper rose to prominence in 2014 after releasing a track called “Yayo” with Yo Gotti and then a debut EP called Go Mode. There have been no arrests yet, and the investigation is still ongoing, according to police.
