Academy Award Winner Actor William Hurt Dies At 71

William Hurt passed away on Sunday at the age of 71, as reported by Deadline. He was renowned for roles in “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” “Broadcast News,” and Marvel films. Furthermore, he is the father of four children from various relationships.

In a statement to the publication, his son, Will, said, “It is with great sadness that the Hurt family mourns the passing of William Hurt, beloved father and Oscar winning actor, on March 13, 2022, one week before his 72nd birthday.”

“He died peacefully, among family, of natural causes. The family requests privacy at this time.” The actor revealed in 2018 that he was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer that had spread to his bones.

Hurt made his cinematic debut in Ken Russell’s science-fiction picture Altered States in 1980, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best New Star of the Year.

In 1985, he received an Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in “Kiss of the Spider Woman.” For his part in David Cronenberg’s “A History of Violence,” he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2005.

He also played General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, the father of Betty Ross, Bruce Banner’s a.k.a. The Hulk’s love interest, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Among his other credits are The Big Chill, Gorky Park, Children of a Lesser God, Broadcast News, and The Accidental Tourist.

This one hurts a lot. I love The Incredible Hulk; it was one of my favorite superhero films as a kid. Seeing William Hurt return as Ross in Civil War was great. So, this news is honestly too shocking to be real. Rest In Peace, General. 😢
