Williams' surprise performance was her debut on the Coachella stage.
On Saturday night, Hayley Williams made an appearance during Billie Eilish’s headlining set at the second weekend of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, and the two sang a duet of her band’s 2007 smash song “Misery Business.”
After a mystery second seat stood unoccupied on stage while Eilish and her brother Finneas played an acoustic performance of their song “Your Power,” there was a brief gap during which anticipation permeated the room, and she took a seat on a stool to reveal her special guest.
“Oh, look! An empty seat. Who’s that for? ” the “Happier Than Ever” singer asked the crowd. “Everybody, can we please welcome my friend Hayley Williams!”
Eilish greeted Williams with glee, and the two hugged and leapt joyfully before taking their seats to perform. “This is my first Coachella, whoa,” the Paramore vocalist said. “Thanks for sharing this with me. This is sick!”
They performed an acoustic version of the pop-punk song, accompanied by Finneas and another guitarist. Following Williams’ exit from the stage, Eilish shouted, “Oh my f-cking god! Absolutely what on earth could be cooler than that? I’m dead serious.”
Williams said earlier this year that Paramore is currently working on their sixth studio album. The band’s most recent album, “After Laughter,” was published in 2017. It has singles including “That’s What You Get,” “Ignorance,” and “The Only Exception.”
For the past two weeks, Eilish, who is the youngest headliner in Coachella history, has been performing the event alongside Harry Styles, the Weeknd, and Swedish House Mafia. Last weekend, she invited out Gorillaz’ Damon Albarn and De La Soul’s Posdnuos for a performance of “Feel Good Inc.”
