Sherri Shepherd celebrates her 20-pound weight loss, saying, "I love the way I feel."

American actress, comedian, and The View alum Sherri Shepherd achieved her weight loss goal despite the COVID-19 pandemic. She’s been actively sharing snaps and clips of herself on her Instagram account, showing her progress.

In April 2021, Sherri revealed that she lost 20 pounds after initially setting a 15 pounds weight loss goal. She celebrated her milestone in her weight loss journey by posting a photo and a video of herself on social media, wearing a fitted blue shirt paired with high-waisted jeans.

The actress can be seen dancing to Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars in the clip. She wrote in the caption, “my goal was 15lbs, but I just hit 20lbs! It’s been a journal of mental self-talk… believing in my worth… knowing my son Jeffrey needs his Momma healthy & whole and wanting to live a life filled w joy.”

The comedian also shared that she shed tears through her weight loss journey, mostly because she relied on sugar, carbs, and anything unhealthy. But after all the ups and downs in the process, she has come to terms that she must change her lifestyle and relationship with food.

Now, she embraced all the changes and said, “I love the way I feel.” In terms of her mental state, the TV personality wrote in the caption, “Clear headed… more clarity, focused & walking in my purpose!” The comment section was also flooded with positive messages and questions.

One of her followers even asked whether she’s lower than 151 pounds now, and Sherri didn’t hesitate to answer “yes” with a clapping emoji. Meanwhile, she can be seen smiling in the photo she shared, with a caption: “Today I am choosing a smile filled with a bunch of silly & a dose of thankfulness.”

When did Sherri Shepherd start with her weight loss journey?

In 2007, the actress was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. She began her goal of losing weight in 2018 and went on a sugar-free ketogenic diet. After a year of following the diet plan, she saw improvement in her health, especially in her diabetes.

At the time, she uploaded a video on Instagram celebrating her health and wrote in the caption: “The doctor excitedly said ‘OHMYGOD what did you do? You’re not even prediabetic!'” Sherri also shared that her son inspired her to improve her health.

When her son asked her, “‘Mommy, if you die who’s going to be my bodyguard?”, that’s when she realized that she must lose weight before it’s too late. The comedian also shared that both her mother and aunt died due to diabetic complications.

She ended her post by writing, “I feel so good I could scream. Just want to encourage you that this can be done. You have people who love you and need you to be here. Live for you! Live for them!”

Sherri also achieved her weight loss goal by combining intermittent fasting with the keto diet. She has avoided sugar for years and has given up dairy products, beef, and pork. Now, she enjoys grilled chicken and salads, and eggs with avocados. As for her snacks, she usually makes kale chips.

The quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic didn’t stop the TV personality from living a healthy life and maintaining her health. During her 54th birthday in April 2021, she celebrated her progress and said it was “the best she has ever felt.”

“My goal is to be living a long and active life with my son Jeffrey, who shares the same birthday as me,” Sherri told PEOPLE.

The pandemic encouraged her to lose weight. She said that during the COVID-19 lockdown, she realized that she needed to get back to basics after putting on some weight. After seeing people infected by the diseases, she “felt more encouraged than ever.”

To motivate herself and be more inspired by her weight loss journey, the comedian joined a weight loss program called Healthy Wage, which comes with a cash prize. She was able to get the best result as she managed to lose 15 pounds with her active lifestyle and diet.

Sherri revealed that she had lost 20 pounds since the start of the pandemic and a total of 35 pounds since she started her weight loss journey. She added, “I realized I was able to make changes and be physically active to get my health in a better position.”

The actress continues posting her progress in her weight loss journey. She usually shared clips of her working out in the gym on her social media account. If she’s not in the gym, she flaunts her curvy body and improved lifestyle.

For instance, in one of her posts in June 2021, the actress wore a curve-hugging blue, white, and orange tie-dye dress to highlight her figure. She also explained how her new lifestyle improved her mental state and helped her lose more weight.

With the changes, she was able to get consistent sleep, meditate, and find a great therapist to “unpack hurt.” Also, she learned to forgive those who wronged her, with more acceptance and “less religion and more relationship.” She further said that she discovered “that God loves me no matter what.”

“Had to say goodbye to some friends who weren’t good for me. Peace makes the weight fall off,” she added in the caption. “What are you doing to find your peace?”

After that post, Sherri shared a video of her in boxing class. While her legs and arms feel like rubber, she’s still determined to make it through the class. She told her followers that she always remembers her “why’s,” including “why are you doing this?” and “why do you want to lose weight?”
