Raven Symone opens up on what she went through in her weight loss journey - and what drives her to make a change.

American actress, singer, and former Disney Channel star Raven Symone has previously talked about her weight loss journey. During her guest appearance on The View, the former host of the talk show discussed what she’s been through to cut down pounds in her body.

In the special season 25 celebration of The View, Raven returned as a guest star as she was once part of the program. Co-host Joy Behar noticed how the former host had lost weight. The actress seemed hesitant to touch the subject at first, but she eventually opened up, revealing she had lost 40 pounds.

“When I ended this show and I started Raven’s Home I was 210 pounds. I am now 170,” Raven shared.

Then, she was asked what inspired her and made her decide to lose weight. The actress pointed to her wife, Miranda Maday, who was sitting next to her. Raven admitted that she wanted to be there for her for “as long as I can,” which prompted her to live a healthy life and lose weight.

“With her help and guidance and love and fantastic cooking skills, which everyone here knows, she helped me kick sugar. And I say kick sugar because it is an addictive drug. I was addicted to it in wheat form, in regular form, and it’s out of my system,” Raven continues.

Raven Symone achieves her weight loss through diet - but with no exercise.

According to the actress, her new diet plan includes cutting down on sugar and following a low-carb keto diet. She also does intermittent fasting while still enjoying eating whole foods. With her wife’s help, she could enjoy treats such as cookies – although she prefers the keto-friendly version.

Back in 2021, Raven has been sharing Instagram videos of her and her wife cooking healthy versions of her favorite food. In August, the couple made a keto key lime pie, which they shared via Instagram Live. Prior to that, she updated her fans in May that she had lost 28 pounds.

“If you all watch Raven’s Home literally right now, and come on this Live and see this joint, I got a whole different face going on,” the actress said on Instagram Live. “It’s a whole pounds-down journey. Just so you guys know, I am 28 pounds down.”

Raven said that her weight loss was due to her new diet plan and no exercise. While she can be seen sharing videos of her walking, she admitted in an Instagram clip she uploaded in June 2021, “Me and exercise don’t get along, but when we do, it’s a quick walk.”

Raven Symone shares how she dealt with body-shaming in the past.

The actress dealt with the negative comments thrown at her and body-shaming, particularly on the set of the Bill Cosby series and her own series, That’s So Raven. In 2015, she told The View that she wasn’t allowed to have a bagel or anything at the craft services, a table for food, and ready to eat.

“And I remember people were like, ‘You can’t eat that. You’re getting fat.’ I’m like, ‘I’m 7! I’m hungry!'”

Raven further revealed that her mental and physical health were significant factors in her weight gain as she grew up. She said that it’s more than what’s the food – it’s more of “what’s in” the food, explaining: “Your cortisol level and your serotonin level have a really strong influence on your body type.”

The actress starred in her own Disney show, That’s So Raven, from 2003 to 2007. Towards the end of the program, she was around 185 pounds, noting that it was her “heaviest weight.” During those times, she recalled how people would ask her whether or not she was pregnant.

“I’m like, ‘No, I’m fat, get away from me.’ This goes through all of our industry, just fat-shaming in general,” she asserted. “Not accepting of females’ bodies.”

Raven made an effort to lose weight back in 2011 and ended up shedding 70 pounds. At the time, the actress felt very proud of her body and how she was able to achieve her goal. However, that’s when the “thick-girl season” became the forefront of Hollywood beauty trends.

“Everyone just started to be thick on television,” she said in a 2014 interview. “I’m like, are they getting the same backlash as I am? Because I was thick.”

Raven Symone is losing weight to stay healthy, and she's not doing it for anyone else.

Appearing on Good Morning America in June 2021, the actress openly discussed her ongoing weight loss journey. At the time, she has lost 30 pounds within three months. She said that her goal is to stay healthy, and she won’t be doing it for anyone else as she did in the past.

“I’m not over here trying to be a little twig,” Raven said. “I’m not trying to be, like, ‘Oh my God, look at me.’ I have a goal in mind, and it’s not just weight loss, it’s really complete body health.”

Raven also decided to switch to a healthy lifestyle after receiving bad news from her doctor. She wanted to maintain her health to live a long life with her wife. Miranda Maday was also full support of her partner, and she was there for her throughout her weight loss journey.

“She doesn’t want to take me to an early grave, and I want to make sure I am there for her in the best health possible,” the actress told E! News in July 2021.

Her long-term goal is to maintain a healthy lifestyle and keep a healthy body. The actress isn’t bothered by what others will say now, especially when it comes to her weight. She and her wife are focused on their big family plans. The couple tied the knot in June 2020.
