Trisha Yearwood shares her weight loss tips

Trisha, whose real name is Patricia Lynn Yearwood, told PEOPLE Magazine that she “went from a size 14 all the way down to a size 10.” She has not weighed like this since fifth grade, so she wanted to share her weight loss journey with every one and to inspire those who wanted to cut down some pounds. She shared tips on how she shed all those weights.

The TV personality, who has been married to country superstar Garth Brooks since 2005, revealed her best trick for losing weight. At the start of her weight loss journey, she was very strict and didn’t give herself a lot of choices. The meal was mainly grilled chicken and egg white omelets. Later on, she learned that moderation and balance are the keys to living a healthy life.

“I’m not a sweet person, but when I started watching my sugar, I found I wanted dark chocolate. I like dark chocolate, so I’ll break off a little piece when I have a craving,” Trisha said.

The country singer has tried different diet plans that promise quick results in the past. These schemes appeal to many, but they don’t really guarantee the outcome you expect. Trisha knows this firsthand because she tried most of them. However, she learned her lessons and realized that there is no shortcut when it comes to weight loss.

“I don’t think you can name one diet I haven’t done. I’m that girl who buys every magazine where somebody’s lost 30 pounds,” she revealed.

When it comes to her meal plan, Trisha opts for foods that are “low-fat, low-sugar 90 percent of the time.” However, she still gives in to her cravings with the remaining 10 percent. The Food Network star allows herself to enjoy the food that she loves and not compromise her diet. The key is all about balance and moderation, as she says.

“If I’m on my way home and starving and I see a fast-food restaurant, nine times out of 10 [I’ll eat at home]. That 10th time I’m going for the fast food! There’s no way you will never fall off the wagon.”

Trisha Yearwood's struggles with her weight loss journey

According to Good Housekeeping, the country singer began her weight loss journey at 15. She tried different diets and programs – Scarsdale and Weight Watchers – just to slim down. She even did a “Banana, Egg, and Hot Dog Diet” when she was in college. It’s basically eating nine eggs on the first day, nine bananas on the second day, and nine hot dogs on the third day.

“Then you are sick. Then you eat a bowl of cereal and gain 10 pounds!” Trisha added.

Although she managed to lose weight through dieting, she gained some back months after. Trisha said she came from a family that is “genetically and habitually predisposed to be heavy,” so trying to cut down pounds was challenging. And even after some of her family members got healthy, the TV personality admitted that she didn’t let go of her unhealthy eating habits.

Her father (died in 2005) was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in the late ’80. He quit smoking and removed carbohydrates and sugars from his diet. Her older sister decided to live a healthy life after getting pregnant at 39. She maintained her weight loss for ten years. Her mother (died in 2011) was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009. She switched to a vegan diet that gave them more quality time.

Over the past years, Trisha has struggled as to why she couldn’t lose weight just like her loved ones. She had already lost count of how many times she started dieting and working out just to look good on award shows – but she still couldn’t drop weight. She turned to the easiest way, wherein she tried to lose weight pill and diet pill because she “wanted a quick fix.”

“I want the pill they advertise on TV that melts the fat, but I don’t think that exists,” she said.

What is Trisha Yearwood's diet and exercise?

Gone are the days when she wanted a fast result. The country singer learned to take it slow when it comes to losing weight. She believes that “all diets work if you eat less and exercise more” and don’t expect a good outcome if you aren’t doing these things. She quit her unhealthy habits, although she didn’t follow a specific diet.

Trisha described the first month of her weight loss journey as “hardcore and boring.” Fruits, vegetables, and lean protein are the only things listed on her menu. She prepares meals and snacks for the whole week from the food she loves – like cucumbers, sweet potatoes, cabbage, apples, and grilled chicken. She also avoided white foods like white bread and pasta.

“I made it simple [and very low-calorie], because I knew I wouldn’t stay on it unless I saw results fast,” the singer said.

She also revealed that she didn’t tell anyone that she was trying to lose weight. She didn’t want to hear the remark “‘I thought you were on a diet” if ever she overate. There were days when she had to conquer her cravings while working on her music at night. She stays away from the kitchen and keeps herself busy with what she’s doing whenever that happens.

Apart from the diet, Trisha knew she had to start working out and go to the gym to cut down pounds. Some of her friends suggested another strategy – Zumba. She hesitated to do it at first, but she enjoys doing it now, and it “worked like a dream.” Her class starts at 6:30 in the morning, and she doesn’t go home until almost 8 AM to avoid eating breakfast after burning all the calories from Zumba.
