The actress’ corpse was found not long after 10 a.m., according to New York State Police’s statement acquired by TMZ. Officers who were called to a suspected drowning call on Sunday around 8 a.m., found the victim in the St. Lawrence River.

Moreover, based on the results of a preliminary investigation, it appears that she died exercising by swimming in a river. The Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office has received her body for an autopsy, and the investigation is still ongoing.

A family spokesman subsequently issued a statement, which Deadline obtained, claiming that Mara was staying at her sister Martha Mara’s summer residence in Syracuse, which has riverfront property.

“I still remember seeing her onstage in 1992 in “Mad Forest” off Broadway. She was electric, funny and a true individual. Everyone loved her. She will be missed.”

Along with her roles in “Nash Bridges,” “ER,” and “Law & Order,” Mara has starred in more than 20 films and 40 television programs, including “West Wing,” “Mr. Saturday Night,” “The Hard Way,” “Love Potion No. 9,” “Lost,” and “Shameless.”
