Who would have imagined that a calm morning for everyone on the set would become one of mourning?

Early on Tuesday morning, a shooting near the “Law & Order” set in Brooklyn claimed the life of a 31-year-old crew member. He apparently took numerous shots to the head and neck.

According to a statement by NYPD acquired by PEOPLE, a gunman entered the door of the car where the male crew member named Johnny Pizarro, was sat on Henry Street and fired multiple shots into his head and neck.

As per a separate report from The New York Post, he had just begun his shift and was seated in the driver’s seat of a car that was reserving a parking place at approximately 5:15 in the morning, and then the horrible thing happened.

“It was crazy,’’ one of Pizarro’s colleague said to the publication. “I didn’t hear an argument or nothing. It was quiet, early morning.”

“It was just a pop, and the [gunman] ran up towards Nassau [Avenue]. I only heard one bang, but I don’t know how many shots. I don’t even know who would do this or why.’’

Another colleague of the victim also stated that they had been reserving a parking space, posting flyers, setting up cones, and parking the trucks. “We come 24 hours in advance to start clearing out the parking.”

Pizarro was subsequently taken to Woodhull Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. In addition, the shooter’s identity is still unknown.

NBC and Universal Television also confirmed the tragic news and released a statement on the staff member’s passing.

“We were terribly saddened and shocked to hear that one of our crew members was the victim of a crime early this morning and has died as a result,” the statement reads.

“We are working with local law enforcement as they continue to investigate. Our hearts go out to his family and friends, and we ask that you respect their privacy during this time.”
