She may have won compliments for her resemblance to the late icon, but her accent drew scorn.

Without a doubt, Ana de Armas successfully achieved the transition to look like or appear just like Marilyn Monroe. She received a lot of appreciation for her debut appearance in the Netflix “Blonde” teaser, making headlines and being a popular topic on social media.

However, compliments also come with complaints. Even though she resembled the icon identically, the actress’ accent appeared to bother the film’s critics more than anything else.

Even before Netflix released the Blonde teaser, her Latin accent prompted similarities to Lady Gaga in “House of Gucci,” and even the pop singer received harsh feedback on her accent as well.

The accent of the Cuban actress, according to critics, distracted them. But the Authentic Brands Group, who manages Monroe’s estate and chose to stand up for her, didn’t believe that to be the case.

Ana de Armas Marilyn Monroe

“Any actor that steps into that role knows they have big shoes to fill,” ABG president Marc Rosen said in a statement acquired by Variety. “Based on the trailer alone, it looks like Ana was a great casting choice as she captures Marilyn’s glamor, humanity, and vulnerability.”

In fact, De Armas’ accent shouldn’t cause too much concern because “Blonde” isn’t really a historical movie and isn’t based on Marilyn Monroe’s life; rather, it was adapted from Joyce Carol Oates’ novel, which is a fictional account of her legacy.

According to Netflix’s synopsis of the film “Blonde” follows Monroe’s life “from her volatile childhood as Norma Jeane, through her rise to stardom and romantic entanglements,” which is expected to release this September.
