She is leaving the show ahead of its season 3.
One of the most intriguing characters on HBO’s “Euphoria” is Barbie Ferreira’s portrayal of Kat Hernandez, who is also one of the Season 3 actresses that viewers are most eager to see.
However, it doesn’t seem like we will see more of Ferreira on the hit teen drama television series after she announces her abrupt exit on the show on her Instagram stories on Thursday.
“After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I’m having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye,” she wrote, alongside a fan art of her character made by her co-star, Hunter Schafer who played as Jules Vaughn on the show.
“I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. I put all my care and love into her and I hope you guys could feel it. Love you Katherine Hernandez.”
The reason for her departure was not disclosed, and neither HBO nor the show’s director, Sam Levinson, have yet issued a statement regarding the actress’ sudden exit from the program.
Fans of “Euphoria” adored Kat’s character because she has become as a role model for body positivity. She started the school year off in Season 1 of the show as a self-conscious teen, but as the year went on, she went through a variety of sexual discovery stages and began to develop confidence.
Season 2 revealed, however, that her character was struggling with identity issues, low self-esteem, and anxiety. Her inability to disclose that she was a sex worker before meeting Ethan, played by Austin Abrams, was another theme of the season.
Alexa Demie and Sydney Sweeney’s characters, Maddie Perez and Cassie Howard, who had a falling out this season, are also friends of Kat. Their catfight even won the “Best Fight” category at the MTV Movie & TV Awards.
HBO announced in February 2022 that “Euphoria” has been renewed for a third season, but no release date has been specified as of yet.
