Almost six months have passed after Will Smith hit Rock and yelled a profanity at him for making a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith’s looks at the 2022 Academy Awards, alluding to being in “G.I. Jane” because of her shaved head.

The said incident had garnered headlines and even resulted to Smith’s banned from attending the Academy Awards for the next 10 years. In addition, he is not authorized to attend any further Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences events for the next decade.

He also resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and Netflix has put his films on hold. Although the actor already apologized, the comedian will not be going back to host the prestigious event or according to him “return to the crime scene.”

Rock also used the 1995 OJ Simpson murder trial as a point of comparison, stating that it would be like asking Nicole Brown Simpson “to go back to the restaurant.” In response to his remarks, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences either declined to respond or has not yet released a statement concerning his rejection.

In the meantime, Bill Kramer, the recently hired CEO of the Academy, expressed his optimism about getting over the Oscars issue and stated that they want to move forward and have an Oscars that celebrates cinema.

Rock’s rejection of the invite to host the 2023 Oscars comes after Smith decided to speak up, released a video to address the incident, and apologized. The New York Post first reported the news.
