Guy Fieri didn't have the usual snacks as a kid.

Guy Fieri, whose real name is Guy Ramsay Ferry, is an American restaurateur and TV personality. He is well-known for the popular TV program on Food Network, Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives program, where he visits the top greasy spoon eateries throughout the United States. But despite tasting many dishes, the 58-year-old remained physically fit. So, what’s his secret?

Guy shared that he didn’t grow up eating typical snacks as a kid. In an interview with Food Network’s Chefography, he revealed that he never got to eat “white bread or baloney” when he was a child. Instead, he would consume “steamed fish and brown rice and bulgur.” He also admitted that he didn’t like his mother’s meals back then.

“My parents were into macrobiotic cooking—vegetarian, nondairy, whole grains, no red meat. I started cooking when I was 10 because I just couldn’t eat that stuff,” Guy said in an audition video for Food Network.

The mayor of Flavortown explained that the choice of what would be for dinner would be up to the person cooking it. With Italian ancestry, it makes sense that he preferred pasta to other foods. The renowned chef started cooking at a young age and developed his culinary skills using various products. He studied culinary arts in France before becoming famous.

Since his parents instilled the concept of eating healthily in their home while growing up, he consumes a lot of plant-based foods. Off-camera, he consumes healthy food and admits that his family often debates what to prepare for dinner. Each family member has their own dish preferences, so this topic is something that wasn’t settled that easily.

“My youngest son Ryder always likes to propose pizza. I believe he actually thinks pizza is a food group. My oldest son Hunter, me, and him are big fans of Asian food, and that’s anything Korean, Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese,” he told GQ. “My wife is a little bit all-American. She’s more roasted chicken, potatoes, asparagus.”

What does Guy Fieri like to eat at home?

In a candid interview with Today, Guy revealed that he “could not live” without Brussels sprouts. He likes the small cabbage-like vegetable and has developed a few recipes using the “versatile” vegetable. Even though he is not a vegetarian, he enjoys salad. People would be shocked to learn how much plant-based cuisine he actually eats.

Guy likes Asian foods, as well. He told The Takeout that he’s a “big salad fan, big sushi fan, and Thai food fan.” He enjoys it so much that “Triple D” dedicates an entire episode to it. He also loves soy sauce because of this. Despite liking these foods, the chef still knows the importance of limit and balance. He ensures that he won’t consume Thai for lunch when they eat something big for dinner.

Guy likes snacking, but he makes an effort to keep it healthy. He revealed that he had a snack hiding place behind the sacks of rice while filming Guy’s Grocery Games. He prefers Oberto beef jerky as a snack. He also recalled placing jerky into an outdoor smoker while working at the storied Ferndale Meat Co. when he was young, so it appears that his passion for jerky started early.

If not beef jerky, the TV personality chooses a snack that is a little bit simpler to chew. He admitted to being a huge pretzel fan and having a company called The Awesome Pretzel Cart when he was a child in a 2021 interview with PEOPLE. The Guy Fieri Foundation may have had its beginnings with his early foray into entrepreneurship. Scott Butler, Guy’s trainer, and him go to the gym. The celebrity chef was unable to visit the gym because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

What is Guy Fieri's workout routine?

Guy works out with his trainer Scott Butler. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the celebrity chef couldn’t go to the gym. So, he invites his trainer, along with his wife, over to their house instead. They train on his 14,000-square feet old barn house, which was built in 1891. It was a good idea for them to work out in that space because they could still be socially distanced and masked up.

Guy said that Scott had a program called Tigerkick, which he tried and made a huge difference in his life. When he started learning this, he realized that he must do more to increase his heart rate. Although he loves hiking and does weightlifting, he didn’t get the most out of it because he isn’t doing that interval training to increase his heart rate.

“Crossfit and HIIT training is super important to me. I don’t have a lot of time, so I need to get that heart rate up, keep it up and make the workouts count,” Guy told GQ.
