Naomi, Hunter Biden‘s younger sister, and their mother perished in a car accident on December 18, 1972. Despite suffering severe injuries, Biden and his older brother Beau lived. Hunter suffered severe traumatic brain damage and a cracked skull, while Beau suffered several broken bones. 

Later, Hunter and Beau pushed their father to remarry, and in 1977, Jill Jacobs became the children’s stepmother. Ashley Biden, Hunter’s half-sister, was born in 1981.

Thereafter earning his law degree from Yale University in 1996, Hunter began working for MBNA, a bank holding corporation that had previously contributed significantly to his father’s Senate campaigns. Later, he worked for the U.S. Department of Commerce under the Clinton administration before President George W. Bush named him to the Amtrak board of directors.

In 1996, Hunter was employed at the Delaware-based MBNA bank, earning $100,000 annually. He left MBNA in 2001 to establish a lobbying business. Hunter worked for MBNA as a paid consultant between 2001 and 2005. The New York Times reports that MBNA may have sent his consulting firm millions of dollars. At the time, his father served as the state’s senior senator, and Beau, one of his brothers, was on the verge of becoming Delaware’s attorney general.

National Railroad Passenger Corporation

Between July 2006 through January 2009, Hunter Biden was the National Railroad Passenger Corporation’s vice chairman.

Paradigm Global Advisors

Hunter Biden and his uncle James Biden, Joe’s younger brother, bought Paradigm Global Advisors, a hedge fund, in 2006. They used a promissory note for $8.1 million to purchase the company. Hunter and James weren’t the most successful investors during their five years at the company. 

According to reports, they frequently suffered financial losses due to fraud and Ponzi schemes. Hunter received a $1.2 million yearly pay while working for the fund. According to reports, Hunter and James allegedly unwound the fund in 2010 but never paid off the $8.1 million promissory note.

Substance Abuse

While working in the military, a urine test revealed cocaine, leading to an administrative discharge from the services. Hunter Biden publicly admitted to smoking a cigarette that was laced with cocaine but opted not to challenge his dismissal.

In his memoirs “Beautiful Things,” he attributes his protracted drug and alcohol issues to the 1972 car tragedy that claimed the lives of his mother and sister. Over the course of his adult life, he has successfully sustained extended periods of abstinence and has sought support from recovery facilities. However, the loss of his brother Beau in 2015 was a significant setback to those objectives, and Hunter has acknowledged a severe relapse in subsequent years.

To save his son Hunter from an investigation, Joe Biden allegedly asked for the resignation of a Ukrainian prosecutor in 2019, according to President Trump.
