Robert Herjavec started working in the film industry when he was twenty-two and had just graduated from college. He took up a role under Billy Jack founder Tom Laughlin during that time. He worked as a producer on the ground for Global TV at the Sarajevo Winter Olympics in 1984.

Herjavec then quit the movie business to work for a tech firm, and he applied for a job with a technological firm that offered software. He won the position despite not being qualified because he volunteered to work for free for the first six months. Herjavec spent that time learning as much as he could about the technological industry. He waited tables at night to cover his expenditures until he was paid a regular paycheck.

As time passed, Herjavec was given promotions to various positions inside the business. Herjavec eventually won the presidency before being removed from office in 1990.

When his employment was terminated, Herjavec and Warren Avis, the creator of Avis Rent a Car, launched a business together. Later, Herjavec sold his ownership stake in that company for $60,000.

Herjavec afterward went on his own and founded the technology company BRAK Systems in his basement. The business soon rose to prominence as Canada’s top Internet security provider. For $30.2 million, AT&T, Inc. purchased it in 2000.

After the acquisition, Herjavec joined Ramp Network, a different computer company, as vice president of sales. Soon after, Nokia purchased the business for $225 million.

Today, Robert Herjavec is the CEO of Herjavec Group.
