An adorable photoshoot led to the beginning of Marsai Martin’s acting career. It all began when her father consented to give talent agencies access to her photographs in exchange for a fee reduction from the photographer when she had her portrait taken.

Marsai eventually signed up with one of the companies that had her photographs. At the age of five, she received a casting call for her first national advertisement for Choice Hotels. Eventually, in 2013, her family relocated to Los Angeles so she could begin an acting career there. She also made an appearance in a Meineke Car Care Centers advertisement that year. (3)

Martin then played Diane Johnson in the 2014 season of the ABC comedy “Black-ish,” which was produced by Kenya Barris. Martin has won and been nominated for a plethora of honors for her ground-breaking performance, including three NAACP Image Awards, for which she took home the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and the Young Artist Award.
