What is Lewdle?

Lewdle is a bad word game and the dirtier version of Wordle. Josh Wardle, a former Reddit programmer, created the letter-guessing game Wordle for his puzzle-loving spouse and sold it to the New York Times. The globe has been swept up in the game. Nevertheless, it is played daily by millions of people. When a function was implemented that lets you share your results on social media without disclosing the solution, its popularity skyrocketed. The correct answer to this Lewdle is inappropriate for use at work or by children. (1)

How is the Game Played?

How Lewdle is played

Every day, using the provided colors, you can find the answer to the Lewdle game. There will be three colors that indicate hints: green, yellow, and gray. Yellow indicates that a letter appears in the list but is in the wrong position, whereas green indicates that the letter is in the right place. The absence of the letter is indicated by gray.

Every guess must have initially been a five-letter word, but the developer recently modified it to a 6-letter word, which is the challenge. Only six tries should be required to predict correctly. (2)

Players have an additional six daily chances to figure out the five-letter solution when the filthy word changes. The games’ strategies are remarkably similar, but Lewdle is more difficult due to the small number of simple five-letter phrases in the dictionary, which makes it harder to obtain advantageous letter positioning.

Who Created Lewdle?

Lewdle creator Gary Whitta

Screenwriter and author Gary Whitta came up with Lewdle after being inspired by the popularity of the word-guessing game Wordle. Whitta’s version, which he and game developer Adam Nickerson made, is unlike Wordle in that it only contains foul language or otherwise known as lewd words. (3)

Gary Whitta, who has worked on “Rogue One” and the Disney series “Star Wars Rebels,” began considering ways to change the Wordle after becoming engrossed in the trending word guessing game.

The original Wordle had virtually a limitless number of words to choose from. However, Lewdle will quickly run out of terms even after accounting for regional slang. Whitta said he isn’t concerned about that, though. “Lewdle’s shelf life will be substantially longer.”

The Real Bomb

On social media, Lewdle is also causing a stir. Lewdle has 880,000 daily players and 10,000 real-time players in less than a week of operation. A fast Twitter search yields hundreds of hits from people who love the irreverent character of the game. (4)

Game Development

Lewdle involved several people. Whitta and his wife created a comprehensive lexicon of simple phrases as Nickerson developed the game‘s technical foundation. Since most vulgar words only have four letters and the format calls for five, this task is trickier than it first appears.

Lewdle uses words from various dialects, including the UK, where Whitta was raised, to keep the game going. Because British English is fond of unpleasant phrases, the UK is the second-largest user base, just behind the US.
