Kathy Hilton, mother of socialite Paris Hilton and one of the cast member of the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” recently came under fire for a moment during Mariska Hargitay’s acceptance speech at the People’s Choice Awards.
As we previously reported, the People’s Choice Awards presented Hargitay with the Female TV Star of 2022 award. However, during her “thank you” speech, Hilton touched up her makeup onstage by applying lipstick, blotting it, and even sighing.
The moment went viral, with many people criticizing Hilton for her apparent insensitivity. However, Hilton has since issued an apology, saying that she was actually just trying to fix her makeup during her interview with Extra.
“I actually thought I was going to sneeze and you don’t want to hear me sneeze, it’s the loudest sneeze, I was looking for a tissue, I didn’t have a tissue or a hanky, so I got nervous and just put some lipstick on and it was during her speech so I thought the camera isn’t going to be focused on me.”
“I adore and I respect Mariska very much, I already reached out to her, DMed her, I want to get her address, I feel terrible,” she added and later on looked at the camera to apologize publicly.
“I apologize, Mariska, I am really sorry… I look forward to talking to you… I would never do anything to be rude intentionally and I’m really sorry, it was my first time being back on the stage with some of the girls too.”
The real housewife’s apology comes after she was widely criticized for her actions. Some have interpreted this as Hilton being rude and disrespectful, while others have defended her, saying that she was simply trying to look her best.
Whether you found her application of lipstick during Hargitay’s speech humorous or not, it’s clear that she was caught in a moment of distraction. Hilton later clarified that she wasn’t being rude, but was instead about to sneeze.
