Yvette Freeman is perhaps most well-known for playing a supporting character in the popular NBC series “ER,” but she has shown that she is just as capable as the show’s star.

Freeman co-starred in the NBC sitcom “Working” and has performed on Broadway and off-Broadway at the same time. Even producing a tribute CD and writing and directing a movie was able to fit into her schedule.

The exceptional artist’s upbringing in a musically rich home explains why her greatness in music is so prominent. She once recalled in Mode magazine, “There was always music in our house.”

Yvette also added, “My mom didn’t even care that she couldn’t hold a note. If we tried to stop her, she would only sing louder. Which is why when I told my father I could sing, he made me prove it to him.”

Freeman and her father frequently performed duets as he played the piano for her. Young Yvette wanted to be a singer when she was a young girl.

Moreover, Freeman garnered an OBIE honor for playing Dinah Washington. Off-highest Broadway award, the OBIE awards are presented annually for work in a number of categories.

She was motivated to go on a weight loss journey when her doctor warned her about the possibility of getting type 2 diabetes.

The multi-talented artist entered UCLA’s Risk Factor Obesity Program after reaching a weight of over 257 pounds in an effort to lose weight. Fortunately, she became successful in shedding weight with her doctor’s advice. And one that Freeman believed she needed because her doctor had already warned her that she was at risk for type 2 diabetes due to her weight.

Not only that, there were other warnings besides type 2 diabetes. Freeman revealed that she was getting a warning from her husband as well. For instance, Lanny Hartley, her husband, abruptly took her French bread with butter while they were dining and said, “That’s too much.” Even though Freeman was not particularly pleased with the way she looked, she became irate and refused to listen.

Freeman claims, “They would get so many butt shots on ER.” She also said, “I can look at the reruns and see myself gaining weight.” After two close friends who were both overweight passed away, one from complications related to diabetes and the other from cardiac issues, “I started looking at my life,” recalls Freeman.

She dismisses diet plans like Atkins, Weight Watchers, and Zone, which she has previously tried and been unsuccessful with. And the possibility of having gastric bypass surgery scared the hell out of her, she claims, so she decided against it.

After losing over 120 pounds, Freeman has been busy cleaning out her closet and donating her old clothes to friends and charities. She’s now maintaining a healthy 140 pounds and is determined to belong to the five percent of people who manage to lose weight for more than five years.

The ER star told In Touch that she has no plans to wear her old clothing again. She stated, “Something’s wrong if I can’t fit into my size 8s.” It took a long time, and losing an incredible amount of weight was difficult. Over the course of eight months, Yvette consumed up to seven shakes daily, totaling 700 calories.

She shed weight by enrolling in a University of California, Los Angeles program under the supervision of a hospital. She enjoyed her first meal that wasn’t liquid to mark hitting her goal last summer: a salad, grilled fish, and vegetables. Remarkably, Yvette accomplishes this without sacrificing her comfort. She exclaims, “I eat anything I want.”

She will quit eating after consuming 1,400 calories in a day. Yvette’s mastered calorie counts and displayed her dexterity by explaining that three ounces of wine have 130 calories and one ounce of brandy has 165. “I do allow myself treats like a slice of cake,” she says.

The actress also shared that if she attends a party, she makes a calorie allocation for it. Yvette typically eats fish for dinner, oats for breakfast, and various fruits and vegetables during the day. Her homemade vegetable soups, sometimes with lentils or butternut squash, are among her favorites.

Yvette is aware that reaching her weight loss goal is just the beginning. The broadway actress continues to work out three times per week and meets with a diet therapist once per week for assistance with daily food choices and psychological issues.

After becoming accustomed to being big, Yvette says that people sometimes approach her differently, which can be difficult to deal with. She continued, “If you think life will be like it was before, then you will gain it all back.” Knowing that Yvette underwent a significant transformation, it is intriguing to try her diet and exercise routine.

A dietitian is always an excellent resource to consult when trying to make changes in one’s lifestyle or diet. It is also essential to take things one step at a time in order not to overwhelm oneself and give the new routine a chance to work. Repetition leads to habit formation, and healthy habits are the foundation of a healthy body and mind.

The fact that she began her journey so recently and that she already sees results proves that anyone can make a change in their life if they are committed to it.
