Big Daddy Kane, who was born on September 10, 1968, and is also known as Antonio Hardy, is a Grammy Award-winning American rapper and actor. He began his music career in 1986 as part of the “Juice Crew,” a rap collective. He is famously recognized as one of the most influential and proficient MCs in the hip-hop genre.

Big Daddy Kane derived his stage name from a combination of two sources: David Carradine’s character, Caine, from the TV show “Kung Fu” and a character called “Big Daddy” portrayed by Vincent Price in the film “Beach Party.” His song “Ain’t No Half-Steppin’” was ranked at the 25th position by Rolling Stone magazine in the list of The 50 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs of All Time.

In 1987, Kane signed a recording deal with Cold Chillin’ Records, which was owned by Tyrone Williams (Marl’s manager) and Len Fichtelberg. Big Daddy Kane is widely recognized for his skill in synchronizing his rhymes with fast-paced hip-hop beats. Despite his asthma condition, he is regarded as one of the pioneering masters of fast rhyming. 

Kane’s sense of fashion is also noteworthy, and he set many trends during the late-1980s, and early-1990s hip-hop era, including high-top, fades, velour suits, and four-finger rings. His stage name is sometimes explained as an acronym, “King Asiatic Nobody’s Equal.” (4)
