Katy Perry Is Getting Canceled For Mom-Shaming A Contestant In “American Idol”

Being a celebrity does not give a pass to shame other people, especially if the celebrity is far from perfect and faces multiple insecurities as a parent.

Katy Perry was criticized for her remark when a young mother auditioned for “American Idol,” and Sarah Beth Liebe chose to respond in a TikTok video, constantly referring to the line as a joke and describing Perry’s sentiments as not super kind.

In the video, with the comments disabled, Sara stated, “I mean, it was embarrassing to have that on television, and it was upsetting, and, you know, that’s that…I think that women supporting and elevating other women is so amazing. I think that mom-shaming is so lame and hard enough to be a woman and a mother.”

“And I also wanted to take this opportunity to say that I see all of the young moms and moms who have commented on all the videos and posts. I just wanted to say that I see you, hear you, am grateful for you, you are deserving, and please continue to love your babies. Nobody has the right to feel miserable about that,” she continued.

Liebe presented outstanding renditions of “Benny and the Jets” and “You Know I’m No Good” by Elton John and Amy Winehouse, respectively. However, it was Liebe’s status as a mother of three that indeed drew Perry’s attention. The singer pretended to faint against fellow judge Luke Bryant, causing Liebe to declare, “If Katy lays on the table, I think I’ll pass out.”

“Honey, you’ve been lying on the table too much,” Perry replied then. Sara then claims that during her difficult “American Idol” audition, judge Katy Perry made mom-shaming jokes about the fact that she was a young mother of three.

In a March 8 TikTok video, the 25-year-old singer explained, “There was a joke that got much attention, and I’ve received many messages asking how I’m doing. Having that on television was embarrassing and hurtful,” adding, I think that women supporting and uplifting other women is so cool, and mom-shaming is so lame and that it’s hard enough to be a mom and a woman.”

She closed her video by urging young mothers to keep loving their babies regardless of the criticism. She remarked, “No one deserves to feel bad about that. If you are a good mother and love your children, that is all that matters. Other comments are simply unnecessary.”

Before Liebe began her audition, which aired on March 5, she informed Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan of her age and that she has three children. Fans of the popular show rushed to social media to express their disapproval of the Grammy nominee’s remarks.

“I strongly disapprove of Katy Perry’s recent treatment of Sara Beth on #AmericanIdol. Even though my television was already tuned to this channel and I do not watch this program, what I observed was unacceptable. They permitted Katy Perry to harass this woman on national television before she began singing. So nasty,” tweeted one spectator.

“#sarabeth, Katy Perry is a bully,” commented a second reviewer.

“It’s no surprise that Katy Perry is a horrible person. Young mothers should be celebrated and supported, not ridiculed. Katy is an embarrassment to women,” said a third commenter.

Liebe was awarded a golden ticket despite her brutal audition. Meanwhile, Katy, who shares a daughter with Orlando Bloom, has been silent on the controversy, and her apology remains to be missing.
