Brooke Valentine’s Early Life

Brooke Valentine

Brooke Valentine, born on October 5, 1984, in Houston, Texas, is an American singer who grew up as the oldest of three siblings. During her childhood, she had a tomboyish persona and was involved in several physical altercations. However, in fifth grade, she accidentally discovered her love for singing.

Being an extroverted individual, she was not hesitant to showcase her singing talent in front of her classmates during her school days. Brooke Valentine’s upbringing instilled a particular self-assurance, motivating her to follow a singing profession. However, she faced challenges due to her family’s lack of connections in the music industry.

Nevertheless, her passion for music grew stronger as she entered high school, prompting her to join a female group called “Best Kept Secret” after graduation. Despite the group’s dedication to music, they failed to gain traction.

However, fate intervened when Brooke met Deja the Great, a music producer and CEO of the label “Subliminal Entertainment,” while at the mall with a friend. After learning of Deja’s profession, Brooke approached him for help.

Brooke Valentine’s Career

Brooke Valentine, whose real name is Kanesha Nichole Brookes, has succeeded as a musician, with a track record of releasing several singles and albums throughout her profession. Her breakthrough hit was the single “Girlfight,” which climbed to the top thirty of the U.S. charts in 2005.

Subsequently, Brooke released her debut album “Chain Letter,” which garnered global sales of over 290,000 units. In 2010, the musician took a hiatus from her music career when she gave birth to her son, London. However, Brooke Valentine returned to the music scene in 2012 with the release of two new singles, “Forever” and “Don’t Wanna Be In Love.”

The critically acclaimed album was highly praised by critics and fans for its rawness, drawing comparisons to the works of filmmaker Steven Soderbergh. It was also a commercial success, reaching 16th on the prestigious Billboard 200’ chart.

With 15 tracks, the album was considered one of the most successful debut albums of the year. In 2005, Brooke was approached to create a song for the movie “Roll Bounce,” leading to the creation of “Boogie Oogie Oogie,” which featured rappers Yo Yo and Fabolous and was produced by Brooke.

Brooke began working on her second album shortly after the success of her debut album. “Physical Education” was announced in 2006, and the lead single from the album, “D-Girl,” was released later that year. Despite moderate success, the single did not fare as well as her previous work. “Pimped Out” was another single that followed but was also unsuccessful.

Brooke’s album was put on hold due to the supposed merger of “Virgin Records” and “Capitol Records,” which was a significant setback for her. However, her friend and CEO of “Subliminal Entertainment,” Deja the Great, bought the rights to the album from “Virgin,” and the album was released in 2009 under the title “Physical Education Mixtape.” Despite the delay and changes, the album was appreciated by her fans.

Brooke Valentine disclosed that her album was doomed from the start due to issues with “Virgin Records” and the death of a cousin. Consequently, she expressed her desire to take a break from her solo projects and collaborate on other producers’ albums.

She returned in January 2012 with a music video for the song “Insanity,” directed by Deja the Great and shot on an iPad. Additionally, she unveiled plans for a new album scheduled to be released later that year.

Brooke released two singles, “Rub It In” and “Forever,” from her upcoming album but delayed the release due to other projects. In 2013, her EP Love Letters’ achieved critical and commercial success, with the single “Don’t Wanna Be in Love” charting for the first time in six years.

She appeared on “Love & Hip Hop” in 2014 and announced her second studio album. In 2016, she released three singles, and in June 2017, she joined the cast of “Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood” as a regular contestant. (4)
