While a student at Leeds High School, he could not make the varsity basketball team as a junior. But, he made enough progress his senior year to get the notice of the head coach of Auburn University, who was present at one of his better games. From 1981 to 1984, he majored in business management after being attracted to the university. He spent three seasons playing basketball for Auburn in college.

Christiana Barkley is the only child that Charles Barkley and Maureen Blumhardt have together. Charles Barkley and his longtime wife, Maureen Blumhardt, have just one child, which is uncommon among athletes. (1)

While Chuck was a star with the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1980s and Blumhardt was working as a legal aid attorney and part-time model, they first met in Pennsylvania.

They married in 1989 while both were Bucks County, Pennsylvania residents, and Christiana were born the following year. They have succeeded in keeping their relationship a secret, appearing in public very sporadically.

Charles Barkley’s Career

In his junior year, Barkley left Auburn, and the Philadelphia 76ers selected him as the fifth choice in the first round of the 1984 NBA Draft. He was the team’s leader by the 1986–87 season, and the following year he was named the Sixers’ franchise player. During his career with the Sixers, he participated in six all-star contests and won MVP honors in two. Because of his eight seasons in Philly, Barkley became well-known; he even had his own Nike signature shoe line at this time.

Charles was transferred to the Phoenix Suns in July 1992. He helped the Suns to the best record in the NBA with an average of 25.6 points and a career-high 5.1 assists per game. Only three players have won Most Valuable Player so quickly after being traded. He qualified for his eighth All-Star Game after winning the award virtually immediately after being traded.

His stint with the Suns was cut short by severe back problems, and he declared that the 1995–1996 season would be his final one in Phoenix. During his time there, Barkley led the squad in rebounds, steals, and scoring. He also earned All-NBA and All-Stars honors and shot free throws at a career-high percentage of.777.

Charles was moved to the Houston Rockets in 1996, and things didn’t go well initially. Due to a brawl with Charles Oakley during a preseason game, he was suspended for the season’s first game. He continued to experience excruciating back discomfort and was forced to sit out 14 of 67 games.

However, he did rise to the position of second-leading scorer for the squad. The Rockets reached the championship game with a 57-25 record, but the Utah Jazz prevailed. He was hampered by pain and injury, and the 1999–2000 NBA season was his last.

He received a standing ovation as he left the court on April 19, 2000, and then promptly announced his retirement, capping a 16-year Hall of Fame career. Charles was allowed to test out for the 1984 Summer Olympics men’s basketball squad in 1994. He made it through to the last round of trials but was ultimately rejected.

He participated in the 1992 Olympics as a member of the controversial “Dream Team.” Since 2000, Barkley has participated as a studio analyst for TNT’s network NBA coverage. He shares hosting duties for the post-game program “Inside the NBA” with Shaquille O’Neal, Ernie Johnson, Jr., and Kenny Smith.
