Shaun White’s Early Life

On September 3, 1986, Shaun Roger White was born in San Diego, California. (1) He was raised by his parents, Roger and Cathy, as well as his older brother Jesse and sister Kari. Shaun underwent two open heart surgeries as a toddler due to Tetralogy of Fallot, a congenital cardiac condition.

Early on, he learned to snowboard to be like his brother and the White family frequently visited the ski areas on Bear Mountain and Okemo Mountain. At the age of 7, Shaun was winning snowboarding competitions. He was also a pro at skateboarding; Tony Hawk, a well-known skateboarder, became his coach when the two met at a skatepark in San Diego.

Shaun White’s Education

Shaun White skipped college because he was too preoccupied with his career as a professional snowboarder. Although he has spent most of his life competing in snowboarding, no one knows how he attended and graduated from Carlsbad High School in California.

Shaun White’s Personal Life

Shaun started seeing actress Nina Dobrev in early 2020 after dating Phantogram vocalist/keyboardist Sarah Barthel from 2013 to 2019. After meeting during a 2019 gathering in Florida, the two started dating in April 2020. In May 2020, Shaun and Nina’s romance on Instagram were declared official, and they haven’t been apart since.

Shaun White’s Career

Tony Hawk, a great skateboarder, first saw Shaun’s skill when he was young. At 9, Shaun began working with Tony, and when he was 16, he became a professional skateboarder. It’s interesting to note that at age 6, he switched from skiing to skateboarding. (2)

White has won every medal at the X Games since 2000, which is notable given that he first began participating there. At the Winter Olympics in 2006, he competed for the first time and won the gold medal in the halfpipe.

White’s video game, “Shaun White Snowboarding,” released in 2008, peaked at number 20 among games sold in the USA that year. At the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, White made his second Olympic participation and once more won the gold medal.

In the men’s Snowboard SuperPipe competition at the Winter X Games in 2012, he made history by becoming the first snowboarder ever to receive a perfect 100. He came in fourth place at the 2014 Winter Olympics, just missing the podium by the narrowest of margins.

He once more restored his championship by winning the gold medal at the 2016 Winter Olympics. Amazingly, he had suffered a severe injury that required 62 stitches in his face, although he was still superior to everyone. His gold medal represented Team USA’s 100th victory in the Winter Olympics.

With roles in the movies “Friends with Benefits” (2011), “Stretch” (2014), and the Disney Channel feature “Cloud 9,” White also has an entertainment career (2014). In addition, he provided the voiceover for an episode of Fox’s “American Dad!” (2013) and the 2013 film “The Smurfs 2,” as well as for music videos by The Black Keys and Thirty Seconds to Mars.

Along with Davis LeDuke, Jared Palomar, Anthony Sanudo, and Lena Zawaideh, Shaun founded the band Bad Things in 2012. Warner Bros. and the band entered a record deal and released their self-titled debut album in 2014.

Shaun White’s Controversies

Lena Zawaideh, the former drummer of Mr. White’s rock band Bad Things, sued him in 2016 because he had harassed her sexually and had tried for years to “impose a harsh regime” over her, including urging her to cut her hair short and wear skimpy clothing and underwear. (3)

The lawsuit claims that Mr. White harassed her sexually, gave her graphic pictures of “engorged and erect penises,” and made her view unsettling movies. The case also claimed that Mr. White had been wrongfully fired from the band and was the “face of modern extreme sports.”

In May 2017, the lawsuit was resolved for an unknown sum. A close friend of Mr. White claimed that Mr. White thought the texts he was exchanging with Ms. Zawaideh at the time were mutual and that she reciprocated.

The Challenged Athletes Foundation and Olympic snowboarding legend Shaun White collaborated on a spectacular surprise in Park City.

Zach Sherman, a snowboarder from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, who has three amputees, was surprised by White at Woodward Park City with a snowboarding lesson before giving Sherman a grant to assist with coaching, travel, and training costs so he can pursue his dream of competing in adaptive snowboard competitions.
