Adam Curry’s Early Life
Adam Clark Curry, born on September 3, 1964, in Arlington, Virginia, spent his first eight years there before relocating to Amstelveen, The Netherlands. (1) Although he was born in northern Virginia, he resided in the Netherlands for a sizable amount of his youth and adolescence and did so until the late 1980s.
Curry is the nephew of Donald Gregg, a former CIA agent and current US ambassador to Korea, whom he refers to as “Uncle Don” in his podcast.

Under the alias John Holden, he began broadcasting on Dutch pirate radio, and not long after that. He had his big break on the monthly pop music television show “Countdown” in the Netherlands. The program also had an English edition shown on the Music Box channel that is available throughout Europe. Later, he joined Veronica’s Dutch radio station and began hosting several of the station’s radio and TV programs. (3)
He moved back to the United States in 1987 and was hired as a VJ on MTV, hosting shows including “Headbangers Ball” and “MTV Top 20 Video Countdown,” among many others. He interviewed several musicians on “MTV’s Top 20 Video Countdown,” including Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson. He also had a radio career, hosting the popular show “HitLine USA,” which increased his wealth.
His use of the mtv.com domain name to launch a website in 1993 was not permitted by MTV’s executives or Adam’s superiors, and as a result, MTV filed a lawsuit against him for improper use of the domain name. Adam Curry’s Controversies
The uproar is related to a debate about the podcasting article on Wikipedia. Curry is charged with taking out information that discusses other people’s responsibilities in developing the technology while exaggerating his role.
He was alleged to have wholly erased portions of the essay that dealt with advancements that Technorati lead engineer Kevin Marks had previously discussed.
Curry has attracted a ton of attention for his role in the development of podcasting. And he is now aware that the Wikipedia scandal would cause some minor blowback.
Curry filed a lawsuit against the Dutch newspaper Weekend in February 2006 after it published information about his daughter and reprinted images from his Flickr profile. The tabloid published a couple of the photos without contacting Curry, even though the pictures were made available under a Creative Commons license that restricts commercial use and demands acknowledgment.
Curry was not given any financial compensation in the judgment. Still, it prohibited the tabloid from publishing the images again in the future and imposed a punishment of €1,000 for each consecutive infraction. One of the first times the license had been put to the test in court. (4)
