However, the actors had to overcome several difficulties behind the scenes, including Ball and Arnaz’s 20-year marriage, which threatened to sabotage the show’s popularity.

Fame, intoxication, and Arnaz’s affairs were only a few of the difficulties the pair encountered throughout their 20-year marriage. In fact, according to information from a news article that showed up on the “I Love Lucy” set, Ball apparently knew about his extramarital affairs.

With that, everyone expected a meltdown or an argument between the couple. But Ball stunned everyone with her composed response, contrary to what the cast and crew had anticipated.

According to Ball’s publicist Charles Pomerantz, the actress just tossed her advance copy of Confidential magazine that Pomerantz gave, detailing her then-husband’s affair, and said, “Oh, hell, I could tell them worse than that.”

In 1944, Ball requested a divorce; however, she and Arnaz quickly made amends. Soon after welcoming their daughter Lucie in 1951, they got a proposal from CBS to adapt Ball’s radio show into a television series. Ball had Arnaz take on the character of her spouse in the comedy to monitor him closely.

However, their marital problems persisted, and according to Little Ricky’s portrayer on the program, Keith Thibodeaux, their house was constantly tense. Thibodeaux remembered overhearing loud fighting and swearing, and He also remembered Ball visiting a bar on one occasion and finding Arnaz there with other women.

1960 saw the separation of Ball and Arnaz. They remained business partners and collaborated on several projects even after experiencing marital difficulties. “I Love Lucy” has left a lasting impression on generations of viewers, leaving a lasting legacy.
