After graduating from high school, Kristen Doute moved to Los Angeles, California, to act and pursue a modeling career. She immediately got a role in the short film The Loneliness of the Long Distance Dreamer (2010), playing Tripping Bikini Girl. This was followed by a role in Clint Lien’s Behind Your Eyes (2011) as Katie Richter. In 2012, she starred as Grace in 23 Minutes to Sunrise, a film written and directed by Jay Kanzler. The film also co-starred Eric Roberts. In what is considered Kristen’s most notable role, she played talented and struggling artist Emma in the Gerard Pizzaro-directed drama thriller Blood on Canvas (2013) (5). Inspired by actual events, the film is about the intersecting lives of Emma and her forceful lawyer Henry.

After doing back-to-back films, Kristen went on to play Show Girl in the video short Cha Cha Diva (2013). In 2015, she played the role of Scarlet in Jordan Alan’s drama thriller Cats Dancing on Jupiter, co-starring The Mentalist alum Amanda Righetti and Mean Girls heartthrob Jonathan Bennett. Kristen then reunited with 23 Minutes to Sunrise director Jay Kanzler for the comedy short Donnie Baker’s World (2016). While starring in Vanderpump Rules, Kristen participated in the short film Vanderpump Rules: 12 Days of Pitchmas (2017). Her latest acting credit is a guest-starring role as herself in the Bravo! television series Ex-Housewife (2019).

Today, Kristen Doute manages her clothing line James Mae (6) which she launched in 2014 and relaunched in 2019 with new business partner Magen Mattox. Named after her niece and nephew, James Mae features casual apparel that includes unisex sweatshirts and graphic t-shirts. The brand also sells a wide range of classic and vintage rock and roll designs. After relaunching the brand, the duo kept the brand’s classic and vintage rock and roll aesthetic. It expanded the clothing line with new sustainable products that include recycled fabrics and fabrics made from recycled water bottles.

Kristen Doute collaborated with fellow former Vanderpump Rules co-stars Katie Maloney-Schwartz and Stassi Schroeder to launch their wine label Witches of WeHo, a wine partnership with Canadian actor and Arrow alum Stephen Amell’s wine company Nocking Point Wines. The first offering was a pinot grigio wine called Basic Witch Potion No. 1. The second collaboration followed in June 2019 with Amell’s wine company which produced a rosé wine called Basic Witch Potion No. 2. The wine bottles were pulled from shelves (7) after racially insensitive remarks made by Kristen and Stassi Schroeder resurfaced into attention.

After her departing the Vanderpump Rules cast, Kristen Doute released her first book, “He’s Making You Crazy: How to Get the Guy, Get Even, and Get Over It.” The self-help autobiographical book was written in collaboration with Michele Alexander, the co-author of the best-seller How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days: The Universal Don’t of Dating. This book inspired the classic romantic comedy of the same name starring Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson. Lauded for its humorous and self-deprecating approach to relationships and the world of dating, the book became a best-seller.

Vanderpump Rules Storyline for Kristen Doute

While pursuing her acting career and going to auditions, Kristen worked as a waitress in various Los Angeles restaurants. She eventually landed a server job in SUR, the West Hollywood, California restaurant owned by British restaurateur Lisa Vanderpump. As a popular and successful cast member of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Bravo! greenlighted the Lisa Vanderpump starring Beverly Hills Real Housewives spin-off Vanderpump Rules in 2013. The reality show featured Lisa Vanderpump and her SUR Restaurant & Lounge employees as they navigated through their showbiz and interpersonal lives with each other. The show eventually evolved to follow the ups and downs and various entanglements of employees in other Lisa Vanderpump-owned joints TomTom Restaurant & Bar and Pump Restaurant.

Kristen Doute was part of the original cast that included Jax Taylor, Tom Sandoval, Katie Maloney-Schwartz, Stassi Schroeder, and Scheana Shay. The series initially followed new waitress Scheana Shay as she navigated through her working and personal relationships with established SUR employees, including Kristen. Known to viewers as a troublemaker with an aggressive personality, Kristen was nicknamed “Krazy Kristen” by fans. She is considered one of the reality show’s most popular and iconic characters. She argued with her boss Lisa Vanderpump and started arguments, debates, and affairs with her fellow employees.

In her first season, she allied with co-stars Katie Maloney-Schwartz and Stassi Schroeder to make things difficult for new SURver Scheana Shay.

During the second season, her boyfriend Tom Sandoval admitted that he hooked up with new SUR bartender Ariana Madix. Kristen took it very personally and decided to make things very difficult for Tom. Katie passed on a rumor about Kristen and Jax Taylor sleeping together to Stassi. Eventually, this rumor proved accurate, which led to an iconic confrontation between Kristen and Stassi, where the latter slapped Kristen. During the show’s season finale, Scheana’s engagement to Mike Shay was rocked with violence when Tom and Jax ended up in a physical altercation before Tom left the party with Kristen.

By season three, Kristen Doute was dating new busboy James Kennedy. Things became more complicated when it was revealed that Kristen was still in love with Tom while still doing her best to wreck Tom’s relationship with Ariana Madix. Through all these dramas, Kristen got into a screaming fight with a manager and was fired from SUR.

In season four, Stassi returned to Los Angeles after her failed New York City move. She restored her alliance with Kristen and Katie to get even with Lala Kent. Kristen broke up with James and subsequently dated Brian Carter. Katie, Kristen, and Stassi continued their mean girl ways to ruin Lala and James’ relationship.

Vanderpump Rules proved to be a massive success and was renewed season after season with Bravo!’s Andy Cohen hosting Vanderpump Rules reunions. Kristen Doute stayed as a central cast member during its eighth season run until June 2020.

In June 2020, Kristen and her Vanderpump Rules co-star Stassi Schroeder were fired (8) from the show after fan outrage over former cast member Faith Stowers accusations against them. Doute and Schroeder allegedly made multiple false robbery accusations toward Stowers to the police. The firing also resulted from past newly resurfaced racially insensitive comments that Doute made.
