Robert Downey Jr., aka Iron Man, stepped in to help his fellow actor Armie Hammer after the actor was recently cut off from his family’s dynasty and was having serious financial problems.
According to Page Six, Hammer, whose father no longer provides for him, is said to be making money by selling timeshares at a Cayman Islands resort. This occurred following the “cannibal” controversy that put him in rehab.
“I can’t confirm or deny the report because Armie hasn’t addressed it,” the actor’s attorney said in a statement to the publication. “I just think it’s s–tty that, if he is selling timeshares, the media is shaming him for having a ‘normal job.’”
Meanwhile, Robert, who has also seen his fair share of Hollywood drama, scandals, and addiction, decided to support his fellow actor by covertly paying for his six-month stay at Florida rehabilitation facility.
Moreover, it was reported that he helped Hammer and his family, including his estranged wife, Elizabeth Chambers, by allowing them to stay at his house last week so they could stay out of the spotlight when it was made public that he works at a Cayman Islands resort.
Vanity Fair also had a separate interview with a close friend of Hammer, who made the following statement about his situation: “Everyone looks at Armie thinking that he’s had some sort of privileged life—and that must mean there were no problems in his youth and everything was peachy keen.”
“But that’s not necessarily the way things go. Just because you come from an upbringing where financial resources are plentiful doesn’t mean life isn’t without problems.”
The whole situation started when Muna Mire, a producer for Desus & Mero, tweeted a flyer from the Morritt’s resort on Grand Cayman, which has since been taken down, claiming that Hammer was hired there as a concierge.
Soon after, hotel representatives denied to various media outlets that the scandalized actor had ever worked there. Despite this, TMZ was able to publish photos that appeared to show Hammer selling timeshares; however, the resort offered a different defense, stating that the photos really showed Hammer visiting the office.
