Ingredients

  • 9 oz. Extra firm tofu drained and pressed
  • 1 tbsp. Avocado oil
  • 2 tbsp. Arrowroot starch; is optional for extra crispiness. Omit if preferred or sub with 1-2 tsp xanthan gum for low carb.
  • 1/2 small Onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 tsp Grated ginger
  • 3 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 head of Broccoli, chopped into florets
  • 8 Cremini mushrooms, sliced
  • 4 tbsp. Coconut aminos
  • 1 tsp Maple syrup, sub with a sugar-free or sticky liquid sweetener. Add more or less to taste. Omit for Whole30.
  • 1 tsp Toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tsp Five-spice powder
  • 1 tsp Arrowroot starch to thicken the sauce. May sub with tapioca starch (or cornstarch if desired) or
  • 1/4 tsp Xanthan gum for low carb
  • Sesame seeds
  • Cauliflower rice

Instructions

  1. Cut the tofu into ½ inch cubes and coat them in the arrowroot starch.
  2. Heat some oil in a wok or large pan over medium-high heat. Add the coated tofu and cook for a few minutes until they turn crispy and golden.
  3. Remove the tofu from the pan and add onion, ginger, and garlic. Cook for a minute before adding mushrooms and broccoli. Cook a few more minutes before adding the cooked tofu to the pan.
  4. Whisk together coconut aminos, sesame oil, five spice powder, maple syrup (optional), and arrowroot starch in a small bowl.
  5. Pour the mixture into the pan and stir everything together. Cook for about 30 seconds until the sauce thickens and bubbles. Remove from the heat and serve the stir-fry with cauliflower rice. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top as a garnish.
