Fans can’t wait to see the actor’s artistic brilliance in action as he spins a compelling story about justice, survival, and the unbreakable spirit of individuals who have been cast aside by society.

A difficult journey was ahead for acclaimed showrunner Kurt Sutter when he was abruptly fired from his own creation, the “Sons of Anarchy” spinoff “Mayans MC,” in October 2019. However, with his eagerly awaited new series, “The Abandons,” Sutter has persisted and is now prepared to make a triumphant comeback to television.

During his time at Fox, Sutter, who is most known for creating the dark outlaw biker drama “Sons of Anarchy” and its spinoff, frequently clashed with the company’s management. When Disney and Fox merged, it became clear that the actor would have difficulty working with his new employers.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sutter’s managerial style, which was frequently referred to as “unprofessional behavior,” had been a subject of constant conflict. In the end, the producer’s firing from “Mayans MC” was justified by the network citing several accusations made against him.

In a candid letter to his employees, Sutter expressed his disappointment, stating, “This morning, I was fired by Dana Walden and John Landgraf for all the complaints levied against me. Not the way I wanted to end my 18-year relationship with FX. At least being fired for being an abrasive d*** is on brand.”

More than three years after leaving “Mayans MC,” Sutter is now triumphantly returning with the captivating Western action drama “The Abandons.” The 10-episode order was given by Netflix to the series after its development in the fall of 2021.

“The Abandons” introduces viewers to Oregon in the 1850s, where an engaging story revolves around a collection of distinct families steadfastly pursuing their Manifest Destiny. In addition, they find themselves embroiled in a conflict with an evil entity of riches and power that wants to rob them of their property and history.

Variety reports that the show’s official logline describes these resilient families as “abandoned souls, the kind of lost souls living on the fringe of society, unite their tribes to form a family and fight back.” As this family battles valiantly to save their property, the series promises to focus on the complex relationship between survival and the law, the effects of violence, and the detrimental impact of secrets.

Sutter expressed his fascination with the beginnings of La Cosa Nostra and the misery of Sicilian peasant families oppressed by nobles and land barons in an interview with What’s On Netflix about the basis for “The Abandons.” He added that in response to mistreatment, these families united and eventually became La Cosa Nostra, which evolved as the nation’s dominant force and law.

The first season of “The Abandons” will focus on how these families develop through time, eventually becoming outlaws. In future seasons, Sutter suggests that historical people like an 11-year-old Billy the Kid may be included while still upholding the appeal of the program’s fictional setting.

The release of “The Abandons,” set to air on Netflix in 2024, generates a lot of anticipation. Sutter’s return to television is expected to wow viewers with his distinctive combination of compelling narrative, nuanced characters, and grim reality.
