The “Harry Potter” franchise fans have long admired the close bond between the three actors, who have become just as iconic as the characters they portrayed on screen.
Fans worldwide were delighted by the on-screen connection between Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint in the “Harry Potter” movie series. However, according to Grint, their friendship extended far beyond their roles as Ron, Harry, and Hermione. In an interview, the actor discussed his experiences working with his co-stars, revealing that their relationship was just as enchanting behind the scenes.
Grint, Watson, and Radcliffe, who were cast when they were between the ages of 10 and 12 for the first film, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” set off on an incredible trip together. They shared their formative years on set, attending premieres and managing fans’ enormous popularity and devotion over ten years as they appeared in eight series films.
Sadly, an era came to an end when their last volume, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2,” was released in 2011. Each actor has since worked on their own projects, but they recently came back together for the 2022 “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts” special, bringing back fond memories for the cast and viewers alike.
Grint provided details about his experience filming “Harry Potter” and the instant connection that developed among the three young actors during a fan Q&A session with British GQ. When asked about their first impressions of one another by a fan, Grint recalled a snapshot from the beginning of their journey and emphasized that their bond was strong from the beginning and has persisted to this day.
“We just had fun, and we just kind of went with the flow,” he said. “And I remember when that photo was taken; that was shortly after we were cast. We never fell out. You never know how it’s gonna go; you’re kind of thrown together.”
Grint continued by outlining the complex casting procedure that included several screen tests and people competing for the parts of Harry and Hermione. However, when Grint, Radcliffe, and Watson were ultimately brought together, there was an easygoing chemistry that felt like they had known each other for a long time.
“Multiple screen tests with lots of different Harrys, different Hermiones. I do remember when all three of us were together in a room, and it just seemed very easy; it seemed like we knew each other forever, really. Yeah, we had fun.”
Even though it has been more than ten years since the final Harry Potter movie came out, Grint, Watson, and Radcliffe have all achieved success in their separate fields, and despite this, they remain friends. Watson admitted to having ongoing phone chats with Grint and Radcliffe in a 2022 interview with Vogue.
Despite having similar experiences, the group purposefully avoids using technology for communication in favor of more human interactions, saying, “They both hate WhatsApp and their phones in general. Actually, as a three, we really try and stay off electronics, so that doesn’t help for a massive amount of back and forth. We aren’t on a group chat, but we speak individually.”
“Rupert sends me pictures of [his daughter] Wednesday, and I die,” she added at that time. “Dan and I generally try and calm each other’s nerves. We both mainly try and stay out of the limelight, so it’s been nice to have each other’s support, knowing there was going to be another wave of attention coming.”
The ongoing relationship between Grint, Radcliffe, and Watson is evidence of the special bond they developed while filming the “Harry Potter” movies. Although their careers have separated, their relationship is unshakable and will always serve as a reminder to fans of the magical time they lived through together.
