Throughout its six-season run, the highly regarded comedy series “Schitt’s Creek” has given fans several memorable musical moments. Murphy, who is most known for her part in “Kevin Can F**k Himself,” recalled the moment she first heard “A Little Bit Alexis” in a recent interview with Variety. The discovery of the song came to Murphy during a table read for the episode titled “The Hospies.” She was reading the screenplay when she came across the phrase, “and Alexis sings her title track off her album,” which attracted her interest.

Murphy was thrilled by the idea of singing when other artists would have been terrified. She wanted to demonstrate her skills and viewed this as a chance to do something unique. The actress then requested permission to write the song from “Schitt’s Creek” showrunner Dan Levy after being moved by Noah Reid’s performance of “Simply The Best” for Patrick’s character.

“I got caught up, like, ‘Well, Noah was able to do a thing, so let me do a thing!’ without really realizing that I am not a musician at all, nor do I have any experience writing songs,” Murphy discloses at that time. “Luckily, my two best buds in Toronto knew what they were doing. I went to my friend Nick’s studio, and the three of us wrote the song, and I wrote the lyrics.”

However, Murphy’s involvement didn’t end with the songwriting process. She also had the added challenge of directing the performance herself. She expressed her gratitude for the confidence shown in her and the independence given to her on the “Schitt’s Creek” set, saying, “I felt really lucky to be trusted enough to be allowed to write it myself, come up with my choreography and do my own thing for that episode.”

Modestly, Murphy downplayed her accomplishment in creating the choreography, stating, “I mean, come on, let’s be real: it’s not that impressive. It’s deeply embarrassing, is what it is. But it was nice because there was no pressure to actually be good.” However, many “Schitt’s Creek” fans would likely argue that Murphy isn’t giving herself enough credit. The lyrics, melody, and choreography that came together for “A Little Bit Alexis” formed a perfect storm of entertainment.

It is reasonable to assume that “A Little Bit Alexis” will continue to make “Schitt’s Creek” fans happy in the years to come. It unquestionably created an enduring impression on the hearts of fans with its catchy music and entertaining dancing techniques. The show’s musical repertoire has been enhanced by Murphy’s passion and desire to venture outside of her comfort zone, enhancing her reputation as a multi-talented performer.
