Wes Brown's Career
Wes Brown started his football career at Manchester United when he was 12 years old, entering the club’s academy. He made his senior debut in 1998 after turning professional in 1996, and he was a semi-regular first team member during the club’s 1998–99 Treble season.
Wes’ remarkable return the following year drew acclaim from all quarters, with Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson declaring him to be the club’s most gifted defender. A strong year in 2000–01 was followed by another strong year in 2001 to 2002.
During the 2002 to 2003 season, his reputation increased even further, although his achievements were once again hindered by injuries. Wes tore a knee ligament on the final day of the 2002 to 2003 season and did not show up until the middle of the next season.
He had a strong conclusion to the season, putting in a commanding, man-of-the-match performance in the FA Cup semi-final triumph over Arsenal. Ferguson reaffirmed his belief in his potential following this impressive performance.
Wes was part of the team that won the FA Cup that year, beating Millwall at Cardiff, and went on to finish second in the 2005 and 2007 finals. His injury issues, along with the addition of Nemanja Vidi in January 2006, who would go on to form a highly successful combination with Rio Ferdinand, meant the defender struggled to maintain his spot in United’s starting lineup.
The professional footballer, on the other hand, became the club’s first-choice right-back for the 2007–08 season. He finished the season by scoring Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal in the 2008 Champions League final, which United won on penalty kicks to clinch a league and European double for United, according to Wikipedia.
Wes scored the first goal in a 3–0 win over Liverpool on March 23, 2008, following nearly three years without the need for a Premier League goal for United. Despite originally declining a new contract offer in December 2007, he and fellow defender Rio Ferdinand and midfielder Michael Carrick agreed a new five-year deal in April 2008, which would keep him at Old Trafford until 2013.
He scored his fourth goal for Manchester United in a 2–0 game away to Blackburn Rovers on October 4, 2008. Blackburn’s players claimed Nemanja Vidi had hindered their goalkeeper, Jason Brown, prompting him to head in at the far post. Following an exploratory ankle procedure in November 2008, he was held out of first-team action for roughly five weeks and made his first start in eight months against Hull City on May 2009.
Wes began the following season by playing in the league throughout August, but only appeared in the League Cup between September and October due to injuries towards both Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidi, before returning to the Premier League as a central defender alongside Jonny Evans against Blackburn, where both men put in a confident and professional performance. Wes has not played in the Premier League since a 2–1 win against Arsenal in August.
He coached Wolverhampton Wanderers to a 3–2 victory in the League Cup. In Manchester United’s 1–0 victory over Crawley Town on February 19, he scored his first FA Cup goal. In the Crawley encounter, he also led United again.
Wes signed a four-year deal with Sunderland for an unknown amount on July 7, 2011. He made his debut against Liverpool on the first day of the season, when he was named man of the match as Sunderland drew 1–1. In a game facing his previous team, Manchester United, on November 5, 2011, he scored an own goal.
His first goal for Sunderland came against Queens Park Rangers on December 21, 2011, when he scored the game-winning goal with two minutes left in a 3–2 triumph. Wes’ season was cut short by injury in January 2012 during an FA Cup Fourth Round clash against Middlesbrough. On November 2, 2013, he made his Premier League comeback in a 1–0 loss to Hull City.
Wes was sent off following a 2–0 loss against Stoke City on November 23, 2013, but the verdict was reversed on appeal on November 26, 2013. He was sent off for the third time this season in the fourth minute of Sunderland’s 2–0 defeat to Hull City on December 21, 2013, in a 0–0 draw against Norwich City.
He was also sent off in a competition against Manchester United on February 28, 2015, which Sunderland lost 2–0, despite the fact that the foul was perpetrated by John O’Shea. The red card was eventually revoked when Sunderland won an appeal, although referee Roger East claimed he made the correct call.
Wes was mentioned as one of numerous Sunderland players available on a free transfer at the end of the 2014–15 season, with his contract expiring in June 2015. Manager Dick Advocaat, on the other hand, signed him to a one-year contract extension on June 12, 2015.
Furthermore, he signed a short-term deal with Blackburn Rovers on September 21, 2016, after suffering a series of injuries and spending three-and-a-half months training with the club to regain fitness. He’d also take on a coaching job with the club’s development squad, a team for which he’d played a number of games while recovering health, as part of the arrangement.
He provided instruction and assistance to the club’s younger players with established coaches Damien Johnson and David Dunn. On December 17, 2016, he earned his Blackburn debut and scored his first goal against Reading.
In August 2017, he rejoined with former Manchester United coach, René Meulensteen, by joining Kerala Blasters of the Indian Super League and during his tenure at Blackburn Rovers, Wes was a part of the Under-23s and Academy coaching structure. He is a UEFA ‘A’ License holder, having earned it through the Irish Football Association.
In addition to all of his achievements, ever since his debut in 1999, Wes has made 23 appearances for England at the international level. He was a member of the England side that competed in the FIFA World Cup in Japan and South Korea in 2002.
He has also made his debut against Hungary in 1999 and was included to Sven-Göran Eriksson’s World Cup team in 2002, albeit he only played on the bench. In the 2005 to 2006 season, he continuously played well, earning him a return to the England side for a friendly match against Uruguay. Despite the fact that he did not participate in this match, he hoped to make the final England team for the 2006 World Cup, however he was not chosen.
Today, Wes Brown announced his retirement from international football, barely a day after Fabio Capello returned him to the England team, to focus on his family.
Wes Brown And Leanne Brown No Longer Living Together
Wes Brown and Leanne Brown are alleged to have discreetly split a year ago and are no longer living together, with Wes apparently moving out of the home he shared with Leanne and their three children Halle, Lilia, and Lola, as reported by The Daily Mail.
“Wes and Leanne split before Christmas. There were no third parties involved; it is just a sad fact that their marriage has run its course,” a source said to the publication. “Leanne has flourished in single life and has removed her wedding ring. She has told people she feels free and is working hard on her businesses and flourishing as an independent woman.”
“Wes meanwhile is carrying on as best he can,” the source continued. “There have been rumors of trouble in their marriage for a while but they put a brave face on publicly.” The former couple is also said to be trying their best to co-parent their children and live separate lives.
