She has made the decision to be open about her own, private battle with infertility.
Jennifer Aniston has been vocal about her frustration with the tabloid culture that has followed her throughout her career. One of them is about her relationship with her ex-husband Brad Pitt.
Aniston was married to Pitt from 2000 to 2005, and during that time, there were numerous rumors that she was pregnant. Those rumors, however, were consistently proven false, giving rise to a new one: she didn’t want to have children with him.
In an interview with Allure, the “Friends” actress is now setting the record straight by debunking allegations that she refused to have children with Pitt when they were married and sharing her own IVF experience for the first time.
“I was trying to get pregnant. It was a challenging road for me, the baby-making road,” Aniston said, disclosing her personal struggle with infertility. “All the years and years and years of speculation… It was really hard.”
“I was going through IVF, drinking Chinese teas, you name it. I was throwing everything at it. I would have given anything if someone had said to me, ‘Freeze your eggs. Do yourself a favor.’ You just don’t think it.”
The rumors were considerably intensified after their divorce when the narratives that she was “selfish” and that she prioritized her career over having children were added.
“I just cared about my career. And God forbid a woman is successful and doesn’t have a child. And the reason my husband left me, why we broke up and ended our marriage, was because I wouldn’t give him a kid. It was absolute lies. I don’t have anything to hide at this point.”
Despite everything that happened, the film producer is very thankful for it because, without it, she would still be the same person who lived in continual “fearful, so nervous, so unsure of who they were.”
Aniston did not provide a timetable for her IVF process. Still, she concluded her statement by saying, “I feel the best in who I am today, better than I ever did in my 20s or 30s even, or my mid-40s.”
