Her death of has left the world in mourning.
At the age of 71, Kirstie Alley, who was well-known for her appearances in “Cheers” and “Drop Dead Gorgeous,” has passed away. Her short battle with cancer was the reason for her passing.
In a statement to PEOPLE, Alley’s children, True and Lillie, confirmed the news of their mother’s passing, saying, “We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered.”
“She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead. As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.”
They additionally talked about how their mother inspired them to enjoy life to the fullest because of her “zest and passion for life, her children, grandchildren, and her many animals, not to mention her eternal joy of creating.”
They also express gratitude for the treatment received from the Moffitt Cancer Center’s medical and nursing staff. They closed their statement, which was also shared on Instagram, by appreciating their followers’ support and pleading for them to respect their privacy during this trying time.
In addition to receiving an Emmy Award in 1994 for “David’s Mother,” Alley also won the same award as well as a Golden Globe Award for her breakthrough performance as Rebecca Howe in the late-’80s sitcom “Cheers.” Recently, the late actress joined season 7 of “The Masked Singer” in 2022.
Alley is survived by her two kids: son William and daughter Lillie. She and her former partner, Parker Stevenson, adopted both her kids.
