Hilary's Personal Trainer Shares How the Actress Stays in Shape

Having been a Disney star and now a TV Land star, Hilary Duff has come a long way since her days as Lizzie McGuire. She’s a true style and beauty icon, and it’s clear she has mastered the art of staying in great shape.

Duff’s weight loss plan is a combination of both exercise and nutrition, according to her personal trainer, Dominic Leeder. He shared with Women’s Health Australia how he helped Duff achieve her new fit body and tips for maintaining it.

Leeder points out that it’s common for people to set the implausible goal of reducing a considerable amount of weight quickly. He believes that celebrities frequently make this problem worse.

“Reaching your fitness goals is more of a marathon than a sprint,” Leeder said, adding that his focus for his clients is “not just to reach their goal but to keep their goal. And doing it quickly often doesn’t allow them to keep it.”

What Does Hilary Duff Do to Maintain Her Body?

Duff has been working out four to five times a week since she was pregnant with her daughter Banks in 2018. She does weight training and strength-based exercises. Her routines also include cardio in her workouts, an effective way to burn fat and build muscle.

Duff is a fan of strength training. She says it gives her a sculpted look. She doesn’t feel bloated after weight training, unlike cardio workouts. She says she uses a combination of strength and stability exercises to build muscle.

For example, she might do squats with a Bosu ball and superset them with lat pulldowns. On other days she could focus on single-leg bent-over dumbbell rows or tricep pushdowns with a stability ball skull crusher.

Duff knows that working out doesn’t come naturally to most people, but she is determined to stay in shape. As she told Women’s Health Australia, she aims to stick to her routine even when she feels like slacking off.

In addition to a healthy routine, the actress says she has learned to love her body and take care of herself. She prioritizes her fitness over her busy schedule and says she feels better when she sticks to her workouts.

Duff also focused on making her fitness goals sustainable, which means finding ways to maintain her achievements while balancing her busy schedule and family commitments.

What if Hilary Duff's Diet Plan?

Duff follows a plan called macro counting to control her calories. She eats 1,500 calories to stay lean. She eats three meals daily, including lean proteins, vegetables, and healthy fats.

She aims to consume 50 percent complex carbohydrates, 30 percent fats, and 20 percent protein. In addition, the actress prefers a green juice that includes spinach, celery, parsley, and pear; or a protein shake with yogurt or milk, berries, and almond butter.

She also tries not to eat late at night, as research shows that eating after 6 p.m. can lead to weight gain and a slower metabolism. She also takes advantage of meal prep, which she says is essential for keeping her diet balanced and easy to manage.

Duff preps grains like quinoa and brown rice and protein-packed meals such as steak and chicken. For instance, she pairs these with a healthy salad ready in minutes when lunchtime arrives.

Duff is a big fan of the macro diet, which refers to eating the right amount of the following nutrients: carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. However, it’s important to note that each person is different and should consult a professional to determine the proper number of macronutrients for their specific needs.
