Tig Notaro and Stephanie Allynne met on the set of the film “In a World…” They became engaged on January 1, 2015, and tied the knot on October 24, 2015. In 2016, they welcomed twin sons conceived through surrogacy using Allynne’s oocytes.

Cancer

On July 30, 2012, Tig Notaro was diagnosed with breast carcinoma in both breasts. During a live performance on August 3 at Largo in Los Angeles, she spoke about her cancer diagnosis and other personal issues. Numerous comedians have lauded her work, which has been deemed “instantly legendary”

The following day, Louis C.K. called Notaro to inform her he intended to disseminate the show’s audio. Initially, she felt uneasy about the concept but concluded that the information would benefit others, so she consented. In October of that year, C.K. made audio of the performance available for download on his website under the title “Live.”

Later, Notaro uploaded the audio (along with a booklet) to iTunes. She never imagined “Live” would sell more copies than Kiss’s album “Monster,” which debuted in the same week. She was an early supporter of the band. Notaro subsequently underwent a double mastectomy without reconstructive surgery; she declined chemotherapy but elected to continue hormone-blocking therapy. As part of the New York Comedy Festival in November 2014, Notaro performed a portion of her performance at Town Hall in New York City without a top.

The New York Times described it as follows: “She showed the audience her scars and then, through the force of her showmanship, made you forget that they were there. It was a powerful, even inspiring, statement about survival and recovery, and yet, it had the larky feel of a dare.” Following a performance in Philadelphia in November 2014, Notaro was hospitalized and required surgery for a cyst. She later adopted a vegan diet in 2017, which she credits with alleviating the chronic pain she had endured following her cancer diagnosis. She subsequently obtained certification in plant-based nutrition.
