Reza Farahan's encounter with an old friend drove him to make lifestyle changes, and he began with his weight loss journey.

Real estate broker and Shahs of Sunset star Reza Farahan lost significant pounds ever since starting with his weight loss journey. It was not that easy for him at first, but the turning point for him was when he met an old friend – that was when he knew that he had to make a difference.

In an interview with Men’s Health in 2018, the Bravo reality star shared that he needed to live a healthy life and lose weight after an encounter with an unnamed friend who asked him whether he had given up on life. That was a painful question for him.

Reza made it clear that his friend was not trying to body shame him, and he was just shocked that he looked different than the last time they saw each other. Since then, he decided to make lifestyle changes, and he managed to lose 40 pounds.

The reality TV star said that he used to join marathons in the past, but life caught up with him. He shifted his focus on his real estate ventures, family, and Shahs of Sunset. Eventually, he forgot to pay attention to his health and lifestyle.

After that conversation with an old friend, he knew that he had to get back in shape. He began with his weight loss journey despite the initial struggles he faced. He reminded himself that “there’s a finite amount of time before it’s too late,” and he wanted “to be as smart about it as possible.”

Reza's Weight Loss Tricks

The main keys to Reza’s successful weight loss:

  • He trained with Revenge Body trainer, Ashley Borden, who created training program and an app called Rezafit
  • He focused more on a diet that has a specific weight plan target
  • He’s also listing down everything that he ate
  • He tried keto diet and intermittent fasting
  • His usual meal consists of vegetables, protein, cheese, or salad with avocados

Reza Farahan enlisted another friend in his weight loss journey.

The reality star knew that he could not do it on his own, so he enlisted his friend, Ashley Borden. She is a Revenge Body trainer who created a training program and app, Rezafit. Some of her clients include Reese Witherspoon, Ryan Gosling, Antonio Brown, and Nick Swisher.

Reza knew that Ashley would be a huge help in his weight loss journey. The two figured out that the problem wasn’t because the reality TV star was not putting too much effort to lose weight. In fact, it is actually the opposite of what he’s doing.

“The problem with Reza is that he was actually overtraining in the beginning,” Ashley explained. “He was running so hard that he was burning muscle.”

Instead of working out, Reza Farahan focused on a specific diet plan to lose weight.

Reza and Ashley had to find another way, which led them to focus on a diet with a specific weight plan. The Revenge Body trainer said that while it was great that the real estate broker engaged himself in working out, it still “wasn’t cohesive.”

“Most people hit a wall when programming doesn’t make sense, or they’re piece-mealing workouts together,” she added.

After a series of evaluations, Ashley and her training partners created a program – later called the Rezafit – and they followed it for eight weeks. Shortly after that, they started to see progress in the reality star’s weight loss journey.

Still, despite focusing much more on following his specific diet plan, Reza’s Instagram page has videos of him working out. On one occasion, in a video posted on February 3, 2023, he was seen doing various exercises, including but not limited to burpees, mountain climbers, and crunches. He captioned the post, “100’s was the name of the game. They weren’t just physically hard, the mental game was brutal. And I appreciated every minute of it💪🏽Thank you @marymirollafitness.”

And then, on March 3, 2023, it seemed like Reza came back to love working out again as he posted another clip of him on a yoga mat, doing various sets of exercises. This time, he was seen doing push-ups and even using a kettlebell and dumbbell in some of his exercises. “Back to life💪🏽🔥#fit #athomeworkout #homeworkout #workout,” he wrote in the caption.

What has changed after Reza Farahan began losing weight?

Unlike before, he started listing down everything that he ate. He believes that the biggest change came when he knew exactly what foods he was eating every day. He doesn’t prepare his meal before and often goes with the unhealthy ones. But now, he recognized the importance of healthy eating habits.

“Don’t change your eating habits. Write every single thing that goes into your mouth in a journal. I told [the nutritionist] my goals, and she told me to do this, and you’ll get to your goals,” Farahan said in a 2021 interview with HollywoodLife.

Reza has also started doing the keto diet and intermittent fasting. He previously shared that he starts his day with an iced almond milk latte from Peet’s. He skips breakfast, although he adds keto creamer in his coffee, which is enough to hold him until lunchtime.

The reality TV star eats lunch at around 12:30 PM. His meal usually consists of vegetables, protein, cheese, or salad with avocados. For his snacks, he opts for keto-friendly. Then, he has a pre-made meal for dinner, which will be the last of the day.

“The intermittent fasting is amazing because it really does put your body into Ketosis a lot quicker,” Reza said, adding that he went to a nutritionist before doing the plan.

Aside from his healthy eating habits, the Shahs of Sunset star continues working out. He’s been sharing clips of him exercising with trainers Mary Mirolla and Ryan Gentry on his Instagram account. Some of the exercises he does include weight-based workouts and high-intensity interval training.

Reza Farahan learned to embrace his body and wasn't ashamed to share his weight loss journey on social media.

Reza is now confident and not embarrassed to flaunt his body on his Instagram account, where he shares videos and pictures of himself. He didn’t do this in the past and admitted that he “only recently become truly comfortable in his body.”

“I’ve lost 60-something pounds from the very beginning until now,” he told HollywoodLife in May 2021.

The Bravo star feels more confident and positive with the result of his hard work. He told the outlet that he’s “not embarrassed to take my shirt off,” and he can even wear Adam’s pants, referencing his husband, Adam Neely.

In February 2021, Reza also shared a major update on his weight loss journey on his social media. The reality star uploaded a picture of him nearly naked while pointing at his abs. He wrote in the caption, “This is 47 and 194 pounds! Not there yet, but just so you can keep track of my progress AND I can stay accountable!”

He added that he dedicated it to “Shanae and Chaz, who motivated me more than they’ll ever know.” Reza received many positive messages in the comment section, including his Shahs of Sunset friends. When a fan asked him about his diet, he responded he’s been doing a Keto diet and intermittent fasting.
