Kim Kardashian wore the iconic Marilyn Monroe dress at the 2022 Met Gala.

The 2022 Met Gala was held on Monday night, May 2, in New York City. Many A-list celebrities, politicians, and high-profile people in various fields, including fashion, music, and sport, attended the world’s most prestigious fashion event. This year’s theme is opulence, excess, and fame.

The Met Gala is an annual fundraising gala benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. It is usually scheduled on the first Monday of May. This 2022, many celebrities arrived at the event, looking stunning with their ballgowns and suits.

For instance, Blake Lively paid tribute to New York City architecture as her shimmering gown transformed from copper to green. Other celebrities who swept the red carpet include Camila Cabello, Gwen Stefani, Billie Eilish, and Cara Delevingne.

But, Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala dress became the talk of the town.
The reality TV star borrowed the iconic gown of the late Marilyn Monroe. The
American actress and model wore the shimmery, nude, hip-clinging dress in 1962, where she sang “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy.

Kim K is the only person ever to wear the iconic dress. She said that the idea came after the 2021 Met Gala in September. She thought about the American theme that should be the “most American thing,” and that is Marilyn Monroe. It worked. Kim Kardashian's Weight Loss Tricks

The main keys to Kim’s successful weight loss:

  • She followed an extreme diet plan and exercise regimen
  • She cuts down sugar and carbs — and eats cleanest vegetables and protein, instead
  • She had to run on a treadmill and wear a sauna suit twice a day
  • The strict diet was only meant for the Met Gala 2022

Kim Kardashian had to follow a new diet plan and lose weight to pull off the iconic dress.

The reality TV star revealed that she had to go on a diet in order to fit the outfit. She thought of Marilyn Monroe as “extremely curvy,” so she imagined that the dress might be smaller for her in places where she was bigger and bigger in places where she was smaller.

“So, when it didn’t fit me I wanted to cry because it can’t be altered at all.”

Yet, Kim K didn’t dwell much on that, and rather than altering it, she decided to go on a new diet and exercise plan to lose weight just to fit the dress. She had to run on the treadmill and wear a sauna suit twice a day. She cuts down sugar and carbs and eats the “cleanest veggies and protein.”

“I didn’t starve myself, but I was so strict,” the reality star asserted.

Speaking to Vogue guest host La La Anthony, Kim K revealed that she had lost significant pounds in preparation for the event. She’s also dedicated to transforming into Marilyn Monroe, as she bleached her hair platinum blonde and wore white fur.

She admitted that many didn’t believe that she could lose weight in a short time. But, she used that as a motivation and challenged herself to be committed. True enough, she was able to achieve her weight loss goal.

Kim Kardashian has lost 16 pounds - but is it healthy and safe?

After following such a plan for three weeks, Kim K lost 16 pounds and fit Marilyn Monroe’s dress. However, some were concerned about her extreme diet, and it might not be safe and healthy at all. And according to two experts, it’s not.

In an email to Woman’s Day, Jonathan Valdez, RDN, the owner of Genki Nutrition and spokesperson for the New York State Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, wrote that Kim K’s Met Gala diet is “definitely not a safe way to lose weight.”

FitOn trainer Bree Mitchell, CPT, added that the plan was “unrealistic.” She explained that weight is not always equal to body fat. That means that the 16 pounds the reality star has lost may not be fat – it could have been water weight.

The two agree that engaging in a crash diet to lose weight quickly has an adverse impact on the body. Jonathan said that rapid weight loss increases the risk of nausea, electrolyte imbalance, diarrhea, gallstone, constipation, fatigue, and gout.

Bree also noted that the stress and cortisol levels might go up, and the body may not get the valuable nutrients from your food. She continues that this kind of diet could harm metabolism and even lead to muscle loss.

Experts say that Kim Kardashian's Met Gala diet isn't sustainable in the long run.

Although cutting down carbs and sugar in your diet could help you lose weight, it may not give you the same result in the long run. Carbohydrates, in particular, serve a lot of great functions in the body since it is one of the main sources of energy.

A 2020 study found out that eliminating carbs in the diet could decrease insulin, causing the metabolism to shift. Jonathan pointed out that cutting down carbs is specifically risky for diabetics or if you’re at risk of diabetes. He added that most vegetables have carbs, so Kim K’s diet isn’t carb-free at all.

“I certainly don’t think it’s a long-term solution,” Bree further said.

In addition, she said that it’s likely that you’d gain weight sooner than later after going on an extreme diet, noting that there will always be “rebounds on the other side” if you go in one direction only. The body will find a way to get back what it needs.

Meanwhile, the reality TV star’s diet plan was only meant for the Met Gala. After the event, she shared a clip of a huge pizza and doughnuts in her hotel room on her Instagram Story. She shared that she “haven’t had carbs or sugar in almost a month, definitely three weeks.”

This isn’t the first time Kim K made an extreme effort for the Met Gala. In 2019, she took a breathing lesson so she could wear a waist-whittling corset underneath a Thierry Mugler dress. At the time, the theme was Camp: Notes on Fashion, and reportedly, she was unable to sit or go to the bathroom the whole night.

Kim Kardashian's boyfriend, Pete Davidson, comforts her when Marilyn Monroe's iconic dress wouldn't fit ten days before the Met Gala.

Ten days before the star-studded event, Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson helped Kim K calm down when she could not zip up her outfit. A video (via TMZ) showed the couple at a fitting at Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! in Orlando, Florida.

Pete can be seen supporting his girlfriend as a team struggled to get the dress fit for her. While the reality star doubted and was anxious that the outfit won’t fit her as the event approached, her beau of six months said, “You’re good.”

The team couldn’t zip up the dress all the way down, so they had to tie it up and use a white vintage fur coat to cover up the back area. The video also showed Kim K walking around while wearing the outfit, saying she feels better about it.
