Her recent behavior is the cause of her boys' reluctance to see her.
Britney Spears is fully free to do whatever she wants now that she has won the conservatorship, including marrying her longtime boyfriend Sam Asghari and starting a family.
Even though she prevailed in her legal struggle with Jamie Spears and can do anything she wants, it had an impact on her two teenage kids, Sean Preston and Jayden, according to their father Kevin Federline.
Spears and Federline tied the knot in 2004 and ended their marriage in 2006. Following their divorce, the singer fought for custody of the kids, leading to a string of public meltdowns and, among other things, her admittance to rehab.
Federline then had been granted complete physical and legal custody of their sons in 2008 and the contentious legal conservatorship over her was imposed the next month.
“The boys have decided they are not seeing her right now. It’s been a few months since they’ve seen her. They made the decision not to go to her wedding,” Federline, said in a statement to The Daily Mail.
“This whole thing has been hard to watch, harder to live through, harder to watch my boys go through than anything else,” he continued, talking about the conservatorship. “It’s been tough. It’s the most challenging thing I’ve ever had to do in my life.”
However, for her kids, it wasn’t just the conservatorship struggle that was difficult; it was also her current social media conduct, including sharing her nude photos on Instagram. Her sons find it challenging to visit her as a result.
“I try to explain to them, ‘Look, maybe that’s just another way she tries to express herself.’ But that doesn’t take away from the fact of what it does to them. It’s tough,” the backup singer added. “I can’t imagine how it feels to be a teenager having to go to high school.”
“They tried to give her the benefit of the doubt but at the same time, I can tell that sometimes, it hurts to be in that position,’ he says. ‘So, I made sure all my kids can come to me at any moment and discuss anything. The boys – all my kids – know that they come to me and to my wife and discuss anything,” he explained.
“They’re teenagers right now. You know, we talk about sex, we talk about drugs, we talk about all the things that teenagers go through. I want my kids to make all the mistakes they possibly can in my house, because [that way], I can protect them.”
In spite of their choice to avoid seeing Spears, Federline stated that their boys still love her and care for her. For her part, Spears responded to Federline’s remark by saying that she was saddened by his public discussion of her and her boys’ relationship.
“It saddens me to hear that my ex husband has decided to discuss the relationship between me and my children,” she wrote. “As we all know, raising teenage boys is never easy for anyone.”
“It concerns me the fact that the reason is based on my Instagram… it was LONG before Instagram… I gave them everything … Only one word: HURTFUL… I’ll say it… My mother told me “You should GIVE them to their dad” … I’m sharing this because I can… Have a good day folks !!!”
Correspondingly, she continued her statement on an Instagram post, stating, “The conservatorship has only been over for 8 months !!!!”
“Reminder that the trauma and insults that come with fame and this business not only affect me but my children as well !!!! I’m only human and I’ve done my best… I honestly would like to share my TWO CENTS.”
“I daringly would like for the Federline’s to watch the BIG BOOTY VIDEO !!! Other artists have made much worse when their children were extremely young !!!! During my conservatorship I was controlled and monitored for nearly 15 years,” she added.
“I needed permission just to take Tylenol !!! I should embark on doing WAAAY more than going topless on the beach like a baby !!!!! I’m not surprised that just as my family did their share of interviews, they will too.”
“I’m not suprised at all with their behavior and their approach to what I’ve had to deal with,” she concluded her post.
